WELCOME TO AP LANGUAGE AND COMPOSITION!

AP Language and Composition is a class that emphasizes the process and analysis of composition and rhetoric through writing, reading, and speaking.  In their writing, students will address topics and share ideas.  They will learn how to gather information, develop a style of discourse, organize details, and control their language.  As readers, they will learn to recognize the language patterns that authors have created and to describe their responses to these patterns.   Students will write using the different aims and modes of discourse which will include description, narration, exposition, and persuasion.  They will expand their stylistic patterns and develop the rich vocabularies so necessary to employ the full power of our language.  Students will read a variety of texts from fields such as history, journalism, politics, science, nature, and philosophy.  Although non fiction dominates the course material, fiction is also explored.  Class discussions and Socratic seminars will be numerous and all students are expected to participate.

Important information for absent students!Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
If you are ever absent, be sure to check the calendar and the documents folder for information about what you missed, upcoming assignments, and homework due dates.  YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU MISSED.

If I can, I will post electronic copies of the work we do in class.  It is imperitive you stay as close to on track as possible, for this class moves quickly, and it is hard to catch up once you fall behind.

After checking the calendar and documents folder, and communicating with classmates, contact me if you have further questions or concerns.
