- Know Where You Are Going
Have a general idea of what you want to say. Use your working outline and working thesis to begin putting your ideas onto paper. Appendix A also has useful organizational strategies.
- Get the Words Down on Paper
Your main goal with writing the first draft is to get a complete version that you can work with and revise. Don't spend too much time worrying about every little grammatical or formatting detail, but also don't leave so many errors that revising will become a huge task. Try to get a complete copy that says most of what you want to say.
- Be Open To Flashes of Inspiration
One of the cool things about taking time to write out your ideas out in a paper is that sometimes the process makes you think of something new. Don't leave these new thoughts out just because they aren't in your out- line! Write them down, then find a place to incorporate them into your paper. Sometimes your best ideas will flow out during the process of writing |
