TAG overview

Students who demonstrate gifted abilities are identified and appropriate learning activities are developed for them within the regular classroom or for short sessions in other classrooms. Students may be nominated by parents, classroom teachers or specialists. An assessment process will take place and a body of at least six pieces of evidence will be gathered to determine the academic needs and strengths of the student.

Opportunities for Parents of TAG Students

There is a wonderful website available for parents of TAG students: www.bvgt.org. It is not sponsored by the school district, but rather affiliated with the Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented. This site can be regularly checked for updates on resources available within the community. You will find information about upcoming speakers, support classes for parents, and local events/opportunities for children and families.

TAG Professional Resource Library

Each school has been provided with a small collection of Talented and Gifted education professional recource materials. These materials are for use by administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents. Please feel free to stop by and check out any of the materials. The collection is kept in the TAG room.

Enrichment activities :

SPELLING BEE:

The first annual Spelling Bee was sponsored by our PTA this year. Grades third through fifth participated. Prizes were awarded to our first place winners.

Destination Imagination

This parent run creativity program lets students explore problem solving and teambuilding. Students form grade-level teams and then work together to solve both team and instant challenges. Teams spend several months in preparation for a spring competition/presentation.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BEE:

Our School will be participating in the National Geographic Bee. The national Geographic Bee is a school competion for students in grades four through eight. We look forward to our students having the opportunity to excel and also be encouraged to know more about the world in which we live and share, by participating in the National Geographic Bee. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/study-corner/

SCIENCE FAIR:

We are looking forward to our Science Fair which will be held on April 18, 2013 from 8:00 - 11:00 in the Cafeteria. K-5 students are encouraged to participate.

BATTLE of the BOOKS:

The second annual Battle of the Books will be held at NES again this year. Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades will participate. More information will follow.

LEGO CLUB:

Lego Club will begin in November. It will be held on Tuesdays, after school from 3:05 to 4:05 in the Discovery Lab.

Fourth Grade on 11/6 and 11/13.

Fifth Grade on 12/4 and 12/11.

Second Grade on 1/15 and 1/22.

Third Grade on 2/5 and 2/12.

First Grade on 3/5 and 3/12.
