TAG (Talented and Gifted)

Identification of students as Talented and Gifted (TAG)
BVSD Schools provide programming for Talented and Gifted (TAG) students based on their identified needs and in accordance with district policy, IGBB, Programs for Gifted Students.
Students are identified as Talented and Gifted through the district adopted identification process which is based on a body of evidence.
TAG Educational Advisors are advocates and support staff in BVSD schools for TAG students. The TAG Advisor at Nederland Elementary school is Sara Hersh.  She can be contacted by email at sara.hersh@bvsd.org or phone 720-561-4851.
Programming for Talented and Gifted Students
In BVSD, the classroom teacher is the primary provider of advanced academic services to students in their targeted area(s) of strength to the greatest extent possible.  The TAG Advisor supports the teacher in providing appropriate educational services to TAG students.  Programming provided to TAG identified students is documented in the student's Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) or, at the secondary level; the ALP may be blended through ICAP.
  Enrichment Opportunities
Schools provide students with activities and opportunities that enrich their educational experiences.  Any interested student is invited and encouraged to participate.

At Nederland Elementary, we offer students the opportunity to be involved in:

Third annual Battle of the Books for third, fourth, and fifth grade students.

Resources
The BVSD Office of Advanced Academic Services has provided schools with books and resources over the years.  These materials address the social/emotional characteristics of children who are gifted, varieties of differentiation strategies for instruction, information regarding specific populations of gifted children including factors of gender, culture, ethnicity, twice exceptionality, and more.  Staff and parents are invited to check these resources out.  At Nederland Elementary, these materials are housed in the seminar room.  Additional resources are available from the Office of Advanced Academic Services.
