Estimadas familias:
 
Les escribo esta nota mientras disfruto de unos días de relax. Durante las últimas semanas mucha gente me ha preguntado sobre cómo me estoy ajustando a Pioneer y mientras pienso en ello debo decir que cada día, con cada amistad y cada conexión con los estudiantes me siento reafirmada. Pioneer es, desde luego, un lugar asombroso y soy muy afortunada de haber llegado a ser parte de esta comunidad.
 
La comunidad se compone de un personal dedicado, familias participativas y estudiantes entusiastas. Esta mezcla ha creado una verdadera comunidad de aprendizaje.
 
Para el resto del año escolar, nos quedan algunos cambios en el personal, el desarrollo del presupuesto, más oportunidades de desarrollo profesional, varios eventos comunitarios y, por supuesto, muchas celebraciones compartidas. También continuaremos colaborando para finalizar los planes del día extendido de Pioneer hasta las 3:20 para todos los niños y también estaremos explorando la posibilidad de ofrecer otras oportunidades, de forma paulatina para los estudiantes, hasta las 4:30. Por favor, ¡esté atento a futuros mensajes sobre esta emocionante oportunidad!
 
Finalmente, el personal de Pioneer y yo pasaremos el próximo par de semanas preparándonos para el primer programa bilingüe de verano, que se llevará a cabo en la Escuela de Primaria Douglas. Este programa está abierto a nuestros estudiantes que estudian inglés como segundo idioma, aunque todas las unidades instructivas que los maestros de Pioneer confeccionen serán de beneficio para todos los estudiantes de Pioneer durante el curso 2013-2014. Nos tomaremos el tiempo de crear unidades instructivas bilingües conectando los currículos de ciencias y estudios sociales con los estándares de lectoescritura de no ficción para cada nivel de grado. ¡Esta es una gran oportunidad de aprendizaje para todos!

Dear Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer Families and students,
I am writing this note as I sit enjoying a few days of relaxation. Over the past few weeks I have had many people ask me about my adjustment to Pioneer, and as I reflect I must say that with each day, each
friendship and each connection with students I am reaffirmed. Pioneer is indeed an amazing place and I am very fortunate to have become a part of the community. The community is made-up of dedicated staff, engaged families and enthusiastic students. This mix lends itself to the creation of a true learning community.
 
As we look to the remainder of the school year there will be staffing adjustments, budget development, continued professional development opportunities, various community events and of course many shared celebrations. We will also work together to finalize plans for extending our school day to 3:20 for all students, and will also be looking at the possibility of offering additional opportunities, with a phased-in approach, for students until 4:30. Please look for follow-up messages and this exciting possibility!
 
Finally, Pioneer staff and I will spend the next couple of months preparing for the first-ever Bilingual Summer Program, to be held at Douglas Elementary. This program will be open to our students learning English as a Second Language, although the instructional units created by Pioneer teachers will be of benefit to all Pioneer students during the 2013/2014 school year. We will be taking time to create bilingual instructional units connecting the science and social studies curriculum to non-fiction literacy standards at each of the grade levels. This is a very exciting learning opportunity for all!
