Julie Benmellah

Julie is a Colorado native, born and raised in Steamboat Springs.

She has earned a BA in Spanish literature and an MA in Bilingual and Multicultural Education from CU, Boulder. Julie is also a National Board Certified teacher in the area of English as a New Language. She has been a bilingual educator for 13 years and has been at Pioneer most of those where she has taught 2nd grade, 4th grade, ESL, 3rd grade literacy and is now teaching 5th grade.

Julie lives in Lafayette with her husband Khalil, and her two children Soraya, 3 and Amin, 1.  With two young kids at home, Julie has very little free time but loves playing with the kids, going on daily walks, reading and traveling.

Marina Lopez Del Carril

Marina was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and moved to the United States when she was 6 years old. She has a B.S. degree in Biology from Georgetown University and is in the midst of coursework toward a Masters in Educational Psychology and a CDE Bilingual and Linguistically Diverse Education endorsement.

Marina is married to Mariano (an Argentine) and has three children, all of whom attended Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer. In fact, it was through her connection to the school as a parent first, that Marina became involved in bilingual education and joined the Pioneer staff in 2002.
