 Meet the Fifth Grade Teachers

Grant Swift

Grant began teaching when he was in fourth grade – tutoring his first grade neighbor for fun. Since then, he has worked in a children’s zoo, various environmental education roles, the Peace Corps, and, for the last 20 years, as a teacher at Angevine Middle School and Sanchez.

He holds a Masters degree in Elementary Education, and a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology from CSU. Grant and his wife, Lynn, have twin daughters who are freshmen in college. Lynn is a Plant Ecologist for the City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks.

Rachelle Weigold
I am a graduate of Boulder Valley School District having attended Foothill Elementary, Centennial Middle, and Fairview High School. After high school I moved up to Greeley, Colorado to study Elementary Education and Environmental Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. I graduated from UNC Summa Cum Laude. I am currently working on a Master's degree at Colorado University in Boulder. I will graduate with a degree in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity in the Spring of 2013.

I love teaching because of the Sanchez students, especially the 5th graders! My class is so smart, and I love guiding them toward new understandings. It feels wonderful when a student has an moment of success and personal acknowledgement for new learning! Even more, I love the ways in which my students teach me new things every day. At heart, I am very much a 'kid' and so I feel right at home in the classroom.

My parents live in Boulder along with my younger sister. My sister is nearing her high school graduation and will be starting a pre-nursing program in the fall. We are all very proud of her and excited to see where her journey will take her. Our family also has a very important 4-legged member, Lily. Family is important to me.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy outdoor adventures. Hiking, snowshoeing, and camping are some of my favorite activities. I always make time for reading and enjoy a variety of literature; currently I'm reading an Ian McEwan novel. During baseball season, I spend a lot of time at Coors Field cheering on the Colorado Rockies with my boyfriend. I enjoy watching the Avalanche and also the Broncos. Live theatre and music performances are some of my favorite ways to spend a night out on the town. I also enjoy traveling.
