Alicia Sanchez Administration

Doris Candelarie, Principal

Doris has been at the helm of Alicia Sanchez International since 2007.  She has over 25 years of experience in education at all levels including: operating her own daycare center, elementary teacher, middle school teacher, middle school dean and principal, and Executive Director of Schools.  After three years in the school district central office, she found she missed working at the school level with the students and teachers.  She looked for a community neighborhood school and found her way to Sanchez where she plans to stay for a while.

Doris has a BA in Elementary Education with emphasis on Bicultural Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She holds a MA in Education: Teaching and Learning from Regis University, and is a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy from the University of Denver.

Before coming to BVSD, Doris spent her career in Brighton, Colorado. She states that her work achievements happen everyday she makes a difference in the life of a child, teacher or parent.

Among her other achievements:
Brighton 27J Teacher of the Year, Class of 2000 (they were my 3rd graders in 1990)
Brighton Chamber of Commerce... 1996 Teacher Honoree
Hispanic Advisory Council Person of the Year... 2007
Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society... Education Honoree

Her professional affiliations include:
Colorado Association of School Executives
National Association of Elementary School Principals
Association for Curriculum and Development
Phi Delta Kappa

A Colorado native, Doris is married to her her high school sweetheart, Jim for 30+ years. Doris counts as a personal achievement the fact that she and Jim have raised two thoughtful, intellegent, compassionate and independent daughters, Kandice and Kristina. She is also a recent grandmother to Lily and Lucas, which has put a whole new level of fun in her life.

Doris spends her free time reading... she has piles of books everywhere in her house. When she gets outside, she enjoys hiking, running, and biking with her husband. She also enjoys exploring her creative side through cooking or mountain gardening. They currently live in the foothills outside of Boulder. Something you may not know about Doris - she enjoys all kinds of music and thinks that i-Tunes is the greatest invention ever! She has hundreds of very interesting playlists for every musical taste.

When you see Doris around the school, be sure to stop and chat.  She enjoys getting to know all the sanchez Families.

Kristy Krause, Assistant Principal

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year. I am Kristy Krause your new Assistant Principal. It is an honor to work at Sanchez this year, with the talented Sanchez staff and your amazing children.

Education has been my passion and career for twenty two years. The first eleven years of my career I spent working with children in the Los Angeles Unified School District where I taught grades Kindergarten through fifth. In 2002 my husband’s job afforded us the opportunity to move to Colorado and we jumped at the chance.

In the fall of 2003 I began working for Boulder Valley School District. I have spent the last eleven years as the English Language Development Specialist at Eldorado K-8. Four years ago I went back to school to earn my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration at the University of Colorado at Denver and I graduated in 2012. For the past four summer I have been the Summer School Site Coordinator at Emerald Elementary school which has given me a great deal of administrative experience that will support my role as Assistant Principal at Sanchez.

I am the proud mother of two amazing sons. Jacob is seventeen and just graduated from Monarch High School in May 2014. He will be spending this coming year attending Front Range Community College while he figures out what career path he wishes to travel. Zack is 16 and beginning his Junior year at Monarch where he is actively involved in the Marching Band and Drumline.

With my children now very independent this is the perfect time for me to follow my dream of working with children, families, teachers and the community on a different level. I would love the opportunity to begin meeting with parents and would like to invite you to a series of Parent Power Hours so that I may begin to learn about the families that make up this amazingly diverse community. The more I understand the families that make up the Sanchez community the better I can meet and serve your needs. For Parent Power Hours dates and times please look in the Dragon Tales Newsletter.

Once again, I am excited and honored to serve the Sanchez community as the Assistant Principal. My door is always open to your questions, comments, and concerns so please don’t hesitate to stop by, call or send me an email at kristy.krause@bvsd.org.

Sincerely,

Kristy Krause
