Welcome to: Math is Awesome!

(Okay, really it's Ms PJ's Website!)

Hope you all have a great summer!

Math Classes:

Mathematics does require practice, so be ready for...da da da da...HOMEWORK!! :)

You will all need writing utensil, notebook (spiral), textbook and your brain EVERY DAY in class!!!
Please work to keep up on your homework, organize it in your notebook so you can find it!

The word for the year is LISTEN!!! It is so important for you to be focused in class. Listen to the teacher and your peers. You need to be paying attention during the presentation, when we go over homework, when we talk about objectives and when the teachers calls your attention to something important! (She writes the tests and quizzes and knows what you need to know!)

A website that might help you!!!! (Thanks Mr. McKay!)

http://www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com/dictionary.html

It's a website for mathematical definitions! You never know when that might come in handy!

Groovy was a GREAT success! Far Out Man! Congratulations to the cast and crew!

Studying for a test:

If the teacher gives you the kind of questions, be sure you understand what to expect. If not, ask.
Redo problems. To study well, you MUST DO MATH, not just read!
(You have all the answers so you can check yourself.)
(Good problems to redo are the ones in the examples, because all the steps for those are shown in the book.)
If you get something wrong, figure out what you did wrong and then write down the correct answer with the correct steps. Your brain will remember the last thing you did, even if it's wrong.
Be sure the last thing you do is right!
Be sure you know the meaning of all the BOLD words in the chapter and/or the chapter highlights.
If there's memorizing involved, spend some time on that.
Be sure you know definitions. (Especially with subjects like Geometry!)
REWORK problems. Don’t just read over things. MATH is NOT a spectator sport! (I may have said this before! That means it’s VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
Don’t CRAM! Study a little at a time. Staying up late, doing it all at once, just makes your brain confused!

General retake guidelines:

If you completed your homework and have used class time well and tried to get the material before the test and feel like you didn’t show me how well you understand the material, or just really didn’t get something…you should…
Talk to me by the day after you get your test back to tell me you might be interested in doing a retake. At this time, you need to tell me why you didn’t do as well as you wanted. If there’s something you’re completely lost on, you’ll need to figure out what you can do to relearn the material.
- You may need to meet with me for some extra help. (Usually mornings ot lunch.)
- You may set up a study time with another student who understand the section.
- You may go over the section in the book and do some more problems and check them.
- You may think of another strategy that will work for you.

•Do test corrections. You will need to redo ALL the problems you missed on separate paper, show ALL your work(all the steps) and explain what you did wrong originally. (What was your mistake?)Test corrections should generally be turned in WITH THE ORIGINAL TEST within 3 days of when you get the test back, but check with me to be sure. I will grade them and get them back to you. If you are still missing, you need to schedule a time to get some help. (See possibilities to help yourseld above.) You need to tell me what you are going to do to get the material down better.
Schedule your retake. (Usually in the morning.) We’ll talk when you get your corrections back.
•Take the retake. PLEASE REMEMBER: The retake score counts even if it’s lower!
