 SES Updates

 CSAP is now TCAP

State assessment tests are quickly approaching.  The state of Colorado is in the process of changing the state tests.  Therefore, this year, the test formerly known as CSAP is called TCAP; Transitional Colorado Assessment Program.   Students will not notice much difference in the test or testing process.  The primary changes are in the academic standards that are tested.  The TCAP is addressing the transition to the new Colorado Academic Standards (CAS), which schools are beginning to learn and implement.    Basically, the TCAP will test standards that are in both the new CAS and the current Colorado Content Standards, along with items that are solely in the current Content Standards, but deemed necessary to retain in order to preserve the year-to-year comparability of the TCAP to the CSAP.  Look for the dates for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in our events calendar to the right.

Website Remodel
Our website is getting a makeover! Over the next month, you will notice the look of the site change. The structure and navigation links will largely remain the same. As we go through this change, if you notice a broken link or some type of error, please email our webmasters, bobby.lehman@bvsd.org or megan.schumacher@bvsd.org. Thanks!
Share-a-Gift Success
The students and families of Superior Elementary traveled to the Share-a-Gift Donation Center decorating the distribution center on Friday, Dec.16, 2011. They took loads of gifts generously donated by our SES families. They spent an hour or more decorating the center. We are very proud of the altruistic behaviors demonstrated by our SES kids!
Winter Recess Guidelines
If it is below 60 degrees students must wear their coats. Without one, they will be sent to the office to read. Students must wear jackets, boots and snow pants if they want to play in the snow during recess.

Pets on School Grounds - also added to the 2011-2012 Family Handbook on 9/13/11

Dear SES Families,

One of our utmost responsibilities is the safety and well- being of our students.  In keeping our campus safe we are asking that pets not be brought on school grounds.  Although many are leashed, we have many students with allergies and medical needs.  We do not want to jeopardize students’ safety when traveling to and from school.  Please keep our school community safe by keeping your pets at home.

Thank you,

Jennifer Ikenouye and Johnna Wynn

PS:  The office has added this to the 2011-2012 Family Handbook.

 We are SES

PBS: Positive Behavior Support
This year at SES all students are learning and focusing on three character traits: Respect, Acceptance, and Responsibility. All classes are discussing what these traits look like in various areas around the school.
As we begin the school year, students will discuss the positive behaviors we should all witness in certain areas of the school: Classroom, Cafeteria, Hallways, Group Gatherings, and Playground. Students will practice 'Cool Tools' to apply these skills when they are in various areas of our school.
When students are seen demonstrating these positive traits, whether they are in the hallway, cafeteria, outside or in the classroom, they earn a 'Rock and Roll' ticket (Rock and Roll is our motto for Respect, Acceptance, & Responsibility). This ticket is not only a sign of their strong character, it can be turned into the office, entering the students in a raffle for prizes. Ask your child more about these traits!
