Inclement Weather Reminder

It is that time of year when students may need to be inside the building due to inclement weather.  If the red flag is flying on the flag pole, it means that students will be meeting in the inclement weather locations prior to school starting.  There will also be a red poster board in the upstairs windows – across from the main doors. Otherwise, it  is outdoor recess as usual and students should head to the appropriate playground.

Inclement Weather Locations: Kindergarten to classrooms, KE to classrooms, and all other grades to the gym.

We expect students to be 'Colorado Kids'; to come to school prepared for the changing weather conditions we have here.  On chilly days, we will still have outdoor recess and activities as long as there is no precipitation and the temperature is above 20 degrees.  Make sure your child leaves the house with a coat, hats, gloves and layers to keep them warm this winter.  Thanks!

 KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT

*Children must be 5 years old by September 30th.

*Enrollment for 2013-2014 is online @ www.bvsd.org

 Focus on Success:

Superior Spotlight

Every few weeks we will highlight a special event, class, or student at SES.  Look here for proof why Superior Shines!

This Week’s Star:

Ms. Wynn

Event: A few weeks ago, Superior had a student against staff basketball game. I interviewed Ms. Wynn and asked her a few questions about this extraordinary and exciting event.

Ms. Wynn told me that she and Ms. Ikenouye wanted to do something special after TCAP and for RAR (Rock and Roll week.) So, they decided to have a basketball game.

She told me that they had the basketball game as a reward for perseverance, which was the character word of the month for April.

Ms. Wynn said that she thought that the basketball game had brought the school together as a community, made great social interactions, and had lots of good encouragement and sportsmanship. I agree! The kids in the gym that day were loud, intense, and on the edge of their seats!

Ms. Wynn chose the people to be in the basketball game. They asked grade level teachers to give names of students that had shown character traits, and the kids that got perseverance tickets.

The basketball game was a lot of fun! Run, dribble, shoot, score! I stole the ball from Mr. Lehman and made the hoop. Yay!

Ms. Wynn told me that she would love to have another basketball game, but they might do something else, like soccer. I hope so too!!

 We are SES

PBS: Positive Behavior Support
This year at SES all students are learning and focusing on three character traits: Respect, Acceptance, and Responsibility. All classes are discussing what these traits look like in various areas around the school.
As we begin the school year, students will discuss the positive behaviors we should all witness in certain areas of the school: Classroom, Cafeteria, Hallways, Group Gatherings, and Playground. Students will practice 'Cool Tools' to apply these skills when they are in various areas of our school.
When students are seen demonstrating these positive traits, whether they are in the hallway, cafeteria, outside or in the classroom, they earn a 'Rock and Roll' ticket (Rock and Roll is our motto for Respect, Acceptance, & Responsibility). This ticket is not only a sign of their strong character, it can be turned into the office, entering the students in a raffle for prizes. Ask your child more about these traits!
