Dear First Grader,

I am so excited to have you in my class!  This is going to be an amazing year for you.  I have been working hard this summer on planning  some fun things for us.  Please come to school on Monday August 11th for “Meet the Teacher” from 2:00-3:00.  You will get to meet me and find your very own desk.  You will also be able to bring your supplies and put them in your desk.   Please have your parent label your name on your supplies that will go in your desk.  You do not need to label supplies that we share such as paper towels, pencils, Clorox wipes, and tissues.


Dear Families,

I hope you are as excited as I am about the new school year.  It should be an awesome experience for us all.    I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to Superior Elementary School’s Back to School Night on_August 31st .  I strongly encourage you to attend as the first grade team will be covering important information that will make the transition into first grade easier for us all.

 

In first grade we will start out the year learning about our classroom, the routines, and expectations. The first few weeks we will take things slow in order to establish a consistent and effective learning environment.  I will also be assessing the students’ strengths, areas for growth and learning styles to help us create a first grade program around student needs.

Parent Volunteer Sign-up

Your volunteer work is crucial to a great year us all.  I will have the sign-up available at Back-to-School Night.

 

Special Needs

Please let me know of any immediate needs your child may have, special health conditions that may affect learning or behavior, and or any other information that may be important.  It is helpful to have information about glasses, physical impairments, medication, etc as soon as possible.  Thank You!

 

Snack

As you and I both know there is a big difference between the length of a kindergarten day and a first grade day.  It will take some time for your child to adjust to the full day here in first grade.  The first graders eat lunch very early, 10:45 am.  Their tummies can be quite hungry by the afternoon.  Please help your child to remember to pack a healthy snack for the afternoon.  You may want to discuss with your child what is packed for lunch and what is packed for snack.

 

Suggested Materials

The school has sent you a list of requested items for the school year.  If you have any problems acquiring these items please let me know.  Certain items such as tissues and table wipes are in constant demand.  I will send out a message in my newsletters once we get low.
