 Kindergarten AM Mueller

Kindergarten music class is singing all the favorite holiday songs from times past.   We are talking about how each song celebrates something different - sleigh riding, Christmas, Santa, Hanukah, and winter.  We've also been playing the jingle bells to accompany some of our favorite tunes.  The Kindergartners also know that each culture doesn't have to celebrate during December - some actually have a large celebration at another time of year.  We'll move on to Chinese New Year soon.

 First Grade

First Grade Music classes are currently playing Kinderglockenspiels ( small, metal xylophones).  They are learning how each bar has a specific note (letter name) and then is able to play those notes (letters) to produce song melodies.  So far, they have learned the first phrase of "Jingle Bells" and the entire "African Noel" song.  It really sounds great.

 Fourth Grade

Fourth Graders are now working on playing the guitars.  They are a big hit!  Each student has been successfully playing the simple C, G7, and G chords.  Some of the songs they are playing are "Skip to My Lou", "Merrily We Row Along", "London Bridge", and "Jingle Bells".  Students who are currently taking guitar lessons are bringing/have brought in their guitars (mostly electric) to show their talents.  This Fourth Grade sure is musical.

 Handbells

The fall semester Handbell Choir is now complete.  They all worked extremely hard to produce a great concert on Dec. 7th.  My congratulations to them all.  Handbells will continue in the spring semester with some changes.  Monday rehearsals will be for experienced players and Wednesday rehearsals will be for beginners.  Both groups will practice in Mrs. Schulz's room from 2:30-3:15 PM.  There will be a joint concert with the Songbirds on March 21.  I look forward to another semester or ringing!

 Songbirds

The Songbird Choir did a fantastic job on their December 7th concert.  Thank you for the many compliments.  These singers were a very talented young group who did an amazing job.  I want to thank them for their hard work and dedication - they were truly "angelic" singers!  I'll look forward to hearing them again in the spring under the direction of Mrs. Austin.

The fourth graders will be studying the families of instruments: brass, woodwind, strings and percussion. If you have an instrument that we may use for "show and tell" purposes, please let me know. It would be great to get to hold, touch, and see some of these instruments in person.
