Cold Weather Recess:
Colorado's weather is fickle, especially in the winter. The sunshine can fool us into thinking it's warm, when it's really only 25 degrees! The kids often forget their coats at home or in the classroom if it looks sunny outside. They even peel those coats off and leave them where they line up, saying it's too hot to wear them. For first and second grade lunch recess, we have decided on the following policies: If there is snow, children must wear snow boots to play in it. The blacktop is usually cleared for those who forget boots. If kids want to roll around in the snow, they must have on snow pants. This prevents kids from sitting all afternoon in wet clothes. If it is below 60 degrees and/or windy, students must wear their coat. If they forgot to bring one to recess, they will be sent in to read during recess in the front office. (this will be true for kids who wear crocs in the snow, as well.) We love working with the students at Superior Elementary and want to keep them safe and healthy!
