Automotive/Collision Technology

 

 Program Description

 

This is a one and/or two-year certificate program in which students learn state-of-the-art auto/collision repair technologies such as detailing, damage repair, paint refinishing, shop management skills and customer service. Students also learn wheels and tires, balancing, suspension, brakes, basic electrical, clutches, engine removal and replace, transmission removal, and replacement of exhaust systems.

Also available is learning custom painting and airbrushing techniques. Detailing is available year-round in both the AM and PM shifts as part of the curriculum.

 Courses Available

 

 Automotive/Collision Technology 1 (30 credits)

Coursework covers shop safety, tool management, basic electricity, battery/charging/starting systems, and fluids maintenance. Overview and instruction in the use of air, electric, and hydraulic tools and equipment; paint spray equipment and techniques; parts alignment and replacement, detailing, and shop management. Students learn basic skills and techniques in welding, structural and non-structural repair, plastic and adhesive repairs and prep for refinishing. Basic operation of automotive braking systems, tire & wheel balancing, and steering & suspension systems. Basic lubrication systems (oil changes). Lubing suspension parts and related components Basic detailing skills, wet sanding, exterior buffing , engine bay cleaning

 Automotive/Collision Technology 2 (30 credits)

Students learn to test, diagnose, and repair complex automotive systems. Advanced instruction in the use of air, electric and hydraulic tools and equipment; paint spray equipment and techniques; parts alignment and replacement; diagnosis and corrective actions for vehicle drivability. Students learn advanced skills and techniques in welding, structural and non-structural and major-damage repair, plastic repair, and refinishing. Diagnosing and repairing automotive heating and air conditioning systems. Advanced operation of automotive braking systems, tire & wheel balancing, and steering & suspension systems (alignments). Students continue studies and practice in shop management skills, customer service and repair cost estimating, specializing in a specific area of interest. Advanced detailing, wet sanding, buffing, interior detailing, interior painting, engine bay cleaning and detailing.

 

 SkillsUSA

 

SkillsUSA is a national career and technical student organization. Students will have the opportunity to participate in leadership skills and technical events related to their technical training and also participate in the Boulder TEC Collision Repair Racing Team Club.
