Willkommen bei Boulder High Deutsch!
Welcome to German at Boulder High!

Reasons to take German:

1)  Germany has the world's fourth largest economy and is the world's second largest exporter (China squeaked past Germany in mid-2009 to become the world's number one).  Germany's economy is booming now, with 3% unemployment they are looking for workers.
Good for BUSINESS.

2)  Germans represent a huge heritage group in America.  According to the 2000 US census, 42.8 million Americans reported having German ancestry.  German immigrants and German Americans are responsible for such common American cultural icons as hot dogs and hamburgers, ketchup and jeans.  Many students learning German have German-speaking relatives.
Good for FAMILY.

3) German-speaking countries have a rich cultural heritage, from music and art, to literature and philosophy, medicine, the sciences, education, sports and beyond.  Think of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Strauss, Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, Jung, Alzheimer, Kafka, Goethe, Hertz, Einstein, Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle,...AND modern cultural icons like Heidi Klum, Michael Schumacher, Wolfgang Puck, Ramstein and more.
Good for CULTURE.

4)  GERMAN IS NOT AS HARD AS YOU THINK!  German and English are sister languages.  If you understand any of this...

Meine Schwester hat braunes Haar.  Sie ist intelligent.  Sie studiert Medizin in Berlin.  Sie kann gut singen.

...then you already know some German!
