Instrument Fund Annual Appeal: By now, you have most likely received an envelope containing information about our Instrument Fund Annual Appeal. Thanks to our amazing Chair, Terry Holum, we have consistently raised over $15,000 with this drive to purchase and repair instruments at Boulder High. This is a critical function of IMPA and this year we are hoping to raise $20,000 to purchase the following Instruments: Orchestra: Full sized cello - $2,800, Replacement strings for all instruments - $1,500 Band: Tuba - $5,250, Bassoon - $5,700, Baritone Saxophone - $4700
In addition we welcome the donation of new or gently used instruments in all sizes! Please plan to send in your check by the end of the year to qualify for a Charitable Donation Tax Deduction. IMPA is a 501(c)3 not for profit. To make it easier to donate we now have a PayPal account. Checks are great as well and can be sent to Teresa Myrwang Holum, PO Box 146 Boulder CO, 80306. No amount is to small or too large!
Orchestra 3 CMEA Concert Information: A preview concert is scheduled for 7:30pm on January 25 at Macky Auditorium on the CU Boulder Campus, in conjunction with the CU Symphony and Centennial Middle School Orchestra 3. On January 27 at 12:15pm, Orchestra 3 will perform at the CMEA Conference in CO Springs. The performance is at the Broadmoor Hotel Main Ballroom. Rooms are available at a discounted rate of $166/night.
Students Need Your Support for Music Lessons and Trips: This year IMPA is helping numerous students be able to afford lessons though our scholarship program. Funds for this program come from donations at concerts and concessions. Due to the difficult economy, more students than ever need this help and our funds are depleted. If you or your business can help with a financial contribution, we can make sure that all students have equal access to lessons. Please contact IMPA Chair Cathy Faughan or send a check to her attention made out to IMPA (note IMPA Scholarship Fund in the memo line) to 421 Indian Peaks Trail West, Lafayette CO 80026. Payments can also be made via PayPal.
IMPA Works Hard to help Students Earn Money for Music: Thanks to a team of dedicated parents, IMPA is again organizing food concessions at BHS football and basketball games. Students who work at the games earn $25 per game for their student account which can be used for music lessons and trips. We think it is important for students to be able to contribute to their musical education. Please support our efforts by purchasing concessions at these events or volunteering to help. Special thanks go to our chairs Teri Wolpowitz and Gigi Lambert for putting in countless hours to make this opportunity available to students. To sign up to help, please contact Teri Wolpowitz. Our first home basketball game is Dec. 13th with games continuing in January and February.
Thanks! IMPA could not accomplish all we do to support our amazing music students if it weren’t for the help of so many parent volunteers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people or their help with a few recent activities. Of course we are always grateful to the ongoing help of so many others not mentioned here:
Instrument fund help: Amy Britton, Claire Feigal, Cristi Hacker Wreath and poinsettia sale: Tamara Nelson, Leslie Kannan, Caroline McClean, Hanne Burr, Cathy Faughan DVD production: Steve Carson Program help: Nancy Stevens Website Design and Updates: Lisa Prosch
Thinking ahead . . . This Spring, BHS Jazz will host a group of talented Norweigan students. If you can open your home for two weeks to a student or two, please email coordinator Terry Myrwang Holum.
