Cross Country Boys

B CC.jpgStellar is the word to describe the outstanding season that the boy’s ran this fall. Coach Hazard says, “The nice thing about cross country is the perfect blend between team work and individual achievement.” Coach really drove his point to the ground when he proudly announced that the boys came in 6th in the state. This was a team effort: overcoming challenges, applauding each other on, and pushing each other to accomplish their best. Many boys demonstrated tremendous growth this year to accomplish this outstanding placing.  Cross country produces some of the most intense, crazy-hard-working athletes that this school sees. Many of us are told to run as a punishment; however, they run our punishments for glory, ecstasy, and pleasure. Here is to the boys for their training and their resilient efforts.  Thank you for putting the great in, “It’s a GREAT day to be an Eagle.”

G CC.jpg What a wild week for the girls’ cross country team.  First, Kara Skattum (9th) began the race with such a blistering pace that her shoe fell off.  Rather than going back to lace-up, she persevered, only to finish the race with a black and blue foot.  With heroic efforts like this, the girls pulled off a respectable 9th place overall finish.  Secondly, since the girls won their race in week one, they have decided to sport their team CC belt buckles.  This Friday the team will head to Heritage HS where they’ll certainly have another strong finish.  The meet starts at 3 p.m., so head out if you can make it and cheer the ladies on to victory.

B Golf.jpgThe boys’ golf season has come to an end, leaving the team members and coaches proud of what they've accomplished.  After qualifying for state at the regional golf tournament, Bridger Ryan and Alex Gorman stepped up their practices in order to be at the top of their game. At the end of September, the two team members were off to the state tournament, hosted at Cobble Creek Golf Course. Bridger and Alex competed with teams from all over the state in the two day tournament. On the par 72 course, Bridger scored an 84 and Alex scored an 87 in the first round. Warmed up and ready to go, the boys had an optimistic outlook going into the second round. Bridger shot a 78 in the second round, earning him a total of 162. Alex, shooting 81, earned a total of 168. With many tough competitors in this tournament, the boys did a fantastic job of stepping it up and competing with open minds. The coaches are very proud of their team’s hard work look forward to next season. Great job boys’ golf!

Gymnastics.jpgThe girls gymnastics team had a great meet this week. Broomfield took home first place at a score of 180.475, with the runner up a close 3 points behind. Not only did the team do well all together, a few individuals had an outstanding performance as well. On the uneven bars Kailey Licata (sophomore) got a score of 9.525 giving her third place on the uneven bars. On beam Maggie Boyer (freshman) got a score of 9.475 giving her fourth place. Overall the girls did great and are looking good for the rest of the season. They have a home meet coming up this Thursday, followed by another home meet next Thursday. Be sure to stop by and cheer them on!

Softball.jpgLast week was probably one of the tougher weeks for softball. Tuesday the girls played a tough game at Niwot, losing 11-1, and Thursday they battled hard  at home against Thompson Valley, losing 4-1, with Amelia Trotter, a sophomore, hitting a line drive double to score the team’s only run. Katie Knudsen, a senior, made an amazing diving catch at third base to start off what was a three up three down inning in the sixth. Overall, it’s been a rough start to the season, but with a little more effort and practice the girls are convinced that it could be the beginning of something great. This next week the Eagles have two away games, Tuesday at Longmont and Thursday at Mountain View, both games starting at 4pm. Let’s hope the team can pull out two W’s going into the weekend.

As the season is winding down, the Lady Eagle Volleyball team is ramping up their workouts to train for the post-season. The girls worked really hard throughout the regular season in order to rank high enough to go to regionals. They accomplished their goal and are seeded fifteenth heading into regionals this weekend. The girls will be traveling to Elizabeth High School this Saturday (November 3), where they will play D’Evelyn High School and Elizabeth. The team hopes to win both matches on Saturday to secure a place in the state championship tournament the following weekend. They are looking forward to the opportunity to head to state, as they haven’t been in over three years. Best of luck Lady Eagles!

bbb.jpgThis year looks promising with the boys of winter. Our Broomfield Eagles came out strong thanks to great coaching and loads of hard work, apparent through the cross-town rival game last Tuesday night. Legacy Lightning had no chance, some would say, but it wasn’t really until the second quarter when our team lit it up. I’m sure captains Dan Perse, Evan Kihn, and Spencer Reeb would love to see your support for the team in another cross-town game at Holy Family on the 21st. Keep it up guys!

gbb.jpgIt looks like the girls have started off another great season thanks to their hard work and the efforts of head coach Mike Croell. They blew Brighton out of the water, November 28th, with a score of 78-20. The home-opener was against one of our cross-town rivals, the Legacy Lightening. Our team never lost the lead, but the score was always close. The win was never a certainty, but once the girls stopped fouling in the 4th, Legacy never came close to taking the lead again. Good job girls! We can’t wait the see how the season turns out.

w.jpgThe boys wrestling team has had a great season so far. They battled against Longmont on Thursday; it was a tough match, but your eagles came through with a win 44-21. It was a great duel; there were many eagle fans from the Broomfield community cheering on the wrestlers. Many of us can agree we, love watching Phil and Jared when they step onto the mat. In the beginning of the duel we were down, but once Phil and Jared competed, they turned the tables and gave us the lead. That gave the rest of their teammates the courage to step up their game and they ended up with a win. Come on Wednesday to watch the wrestling team score another victory against the Centarus Warriors at 7:00.

Starting the season off great, the Poms team performed a fantastic show during halftime at the Legacy vs. Broomfield game.  Last year they took third in state, and, so far, are showing high promise to return to the competition even more prepared than last year. Led by team captains Lindsey Foreman, Lanie D’Angelo, Meredith Pazol, and Carolyn Oliver, the team is focused on nothing but first. The JV squad performed at Elitches for their first competition of the season.  The team danced well and took second overall.  Both teams will be performing this upcoming weekend at Broomfield Days, where they will walk in the parade and dance for the crowd.

We highly encourage anyone interested in being a BHS Cheerleader to come to tryouts, from beginners to those with years of cheer experience.  Preceding tryouts, there will be 3 days of tryout clinics where you will learn everything you need to know for tryouts.
The BHS Cheer Team supports all of the athletic sports at BHS, including cheering at football, soccer, wrestling, and basketball.  In addition to supporting BHS Athletics, the cheer team is also a Competitive Cheer Squad.  This past year was a great year for BHS Cheer.  Our JV Team, in its first year of existence, won the 4A State JV title and are the 2012 State Champs!  Our Varsity Competition Squad in competitions this year placed 1st at both the NCA Regionals and the Winter Challenge Competition.  The team, for the first time in BHS history, advanced to the National Semi-Finals at UCA Nationals.   Throughout the history of BHS Cheer, the team has consistently made it to the 4A State finals, last year was no different as the team advanced to the 4A State Finals in 3rd place.  The team has become more competitive year after year, and continues to better its results from the previous year.  The team's last State Title was over 10 years ago.  The team hopes to recapture the 4A State Title in 2013!  Come be a part of the BHS Cheer Team!
