Abby Carlson

Senior Abby Carlson was selected as the 2011 Outstanding Student of the Year from Broomfield High School. Abby was one of the 30 ProStart students throughout Colorado ProStart Programs to be recognized and awarded $500.00 scholarship from the Colorado Restaurant Association Education Fund. Abby also was the recipient of a $25,000.00 scholarship from the Art Institute of Colorado. Abby was selected based on Her academic excellence, Her outstanding leadership, involvement in FCCLA community service projects, participation in the monthly meals at Corbin & Maryel Manors, as well as Her involvement in the ProStart Mentorship Program.Abby is employed with Centerplate and Earned the ProStart National Certificate in August. Abby will be attending Metropolitan State College to study in the Hospitality Tourism and Event Management Degree Program.

Broomfield had a great time honoring and celebrating the people who made a difference at Emerald High School. Mrs. Ginger Ramsey, Principal of Broomfield High, came to honor and celebrate as well. Many old friends all came together to enjoy eachother's company as well as the great food. Each ProStart table had a theme chosen by each of the retirees. "The Mission of the Colorado Restaurant Association Education Foundation, a Colorado non profit organization, has been to build a quality hospitality workforce through career exploration,high school and professional development programs, and scholarships. Today, we are here to honor the academic achievements of highly motivated students who have excelled in pursuing careers in the foodservice and hospitality industry"
Since its establishment in 1987, The Colorado Restaurant Association Education Foundation has awarded more than 500,000 to students pursuing their college education in this industry. To date, Colorado ProStart and post-secondary college students have received more than 1.1 million dollars in scholarship opportunities from public and private companies, individuals, colleges, universities, culinary and technical programs from all across the country.
