- ATTENDANCE: The CHS attendance policy is strictly enforced. All unexcused absences will result in a computerized phone call home. On the second unexcused absence, a letter is sent home informing parents that their student will be in jeopardy of losing credit if unexcused absences continue. On the fifth unexcused absence parents will be notified that their student has lost one credit out of five credits possible. Upon your arrival back from an excused absence, arrangements should be made to make up the class period missed. Once the class period is made up, full credit is awarded. Leaving class early results in an absence.
- CHEATING: Cheating is a serious matter and it deserves a serious consequence. “O” is given to the student / students supplying information or material and a “O” is given to the student / students. Cheating on a test, turning in someone else’s assignment as their own, helping complete someone’s assignment for them, etc, are all considered forms of cheating and a “0” is given on that assignment.
- CLEAN UP: Students will be working in groups to complete there clean up assignments. Points will be awarded to the entire on a daily / weekly basis. The clean up group will receive all or none of the points available for that day / week depending on the job done
- DAILY POINTS: Points are given for all critiques, demonstrations, field trips, lectures, slides & etc. Make up work will only be given to those students who have an “excused” absence AND only to those students who ask for make up work within the two day limit upon returning from this absence.
- FOOD IN THE CLASS ROOM: There will be no food or drink in the classroom. Students in violation of this rule will be asked to clean the pottery room either before or after school.
- HOMEWORK: All research, planning and collection of specialized items will be done outside of class time. Class time is spent working on these ideas collected, not thinking of them.
- LATE POTS & SCULPTURES / MAKE UP WORK: Late pots and sculptures and late make up work will not be accepted.
- UNLESS - You were “excused” absent on the due date.
- UNLESS - You contact me personally within 2 days of your return from his absence and make arrangements for a new date.
- FAILURE TO CONTACT ME PERSONALLY WITHIN 2 DAYS OF YOUR RETURN WILL RESULT IN “0” FOR THAT ASSIGNMENT.
- RE-DOING ASSIGNMENTS: If for any reason you are not satisfied with the grade you receive on your assignments you have the option to do the assignment over and turn in a different one. It I feel that the quality and the content is better than the first, I will be happy to give you a better grade. There are 2 requirements you must meet:
- You have 5 school days in which to re-submit your work from the day it was originally due -(except the last assignment at the end of the semester.)
- You must submit your original assignment along with the one you have re-done in order for you to receive a better grade.
- TARDIES: Tardiness is dealt with as a disciplinary problem. Students make up this time by cleaning the pottery room either before or after school. Tardiness of 5 minutes or more are considered an unexcused absence. Leaving class early will result in an absence for that day.
- THROWING CLAY: Throwing clay will not be tolerated. The act of clay throwing is dealt with as a disciplinary problem. Students will clean the pottery room either before or after school.
- THE CERAMIC RULE: Students will leave their surrounding area cleaner than it previously was, even if they didn’t make the mess.
- WHAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO MAKE: It is not acceptable to make clay bongs, clay pipes, clay pharmaceutical trays or any item that is drug related. Students making such items will be asked to make an appointment with a CHS administrator and myself to discuss your removal from class.
- AN “A” STUDENT: An “A” student is in attendance every day. If you are absent, you will make up the hour before or after school or during lunch. If you miss 10 school days, then you should make up 10 hours of time. An “A” student does not have “Unexcused “ absences.
DON’T TOUCH OTHER STUDENTS’ WORK!!!
