The Pre-Engineering Academy

In our fast-changing, technology-rich world, all students, regardless of their career path, benefit from improved understanding of the science, math, engineering, and technology that are found every day in the world around them.

Engineers make a difference in our world...come join us!

 Application Requirements

Applications for the 2012-2013 year will be available in December.

Minimum requirements:  Students should be academically prepared to begin Algebra 1 by 9th grade, be Proficient to Advanced in both reading and mathematics on the CSAP, and have good grades  (GPA of 3.0, or "B" average).  We consider a student's whole portfolio, including the items mentioned above, as well as their personal interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math topics, and other academic or personal experiences.

Students in the Pre-Engineering Academy have been accepted to university engineering programs at these and many other schools.

The biomedical engineering students

have been studying gait analysis.

Pre-Engineering Curriculum…

Currently five courses are available for your exploration over a four-year period. You will experience first-hand how engineers make a difference in our lives. Enhance your creativity, problem solving and project planning skills through individual and team projects that capture your spirit of adventure.

Ø      Engineering in a Global Society – In the introductory course, students explore the engineering design process and create 3-D models using CAD software - Autodesk® Inventor and SolidWorks® . Projects include designing, building, and “smashing” model towers to understand stress analysis; and applying reverse engineering to produce a new toy.

Ø      Robotics and Manufacturing There is no dioubt that robots are an important part of our lives? Use your skills to design, program and create robots and explore the use of machinery to mass produce real-world products. Let your imagination run wild as you investigate the world of robotics!

Ø      Biomedical / Biotechnical Engineering – Creatively combine biology and human anatomy with engineering. Discover interconnections of the real world through genetic engineering, artificial joints and organs, and Criminal Science Forensics (CSI).

Ø      Civil and Architectural Engineering – Learn the relationships between structure and design by designing your dream home. Analyze all aspects of your building site and explore engineering challenges unique to Colorado.  You will design and build several architectural models, build and stress test your bridge, and learn to read blueprints.

Ø      Engineering Design and Development – In this capstone course, Seniors work in teams to research, design and create a solution to an open-ended engineering challenge. You will complete a major design project and showcase your design and product to a team of engineers. College application process is also completed during this course.
