    We are eight weeks into the 2011 school year. How has it gotten to be mid-October already? Thank you and great work to those students who consistently complete and remember to bring their homework to school. I applaud you for rising to meet the initial challenge of 4th grade.
    The first grading period will end November 4, and report cards will be sent home on Monday, November 14. Mr. McCarthy, Mrs. Myers and I have already noticed growth in student writing terms of their being able to support their position with relevant details that enhance their ideas. 
    Another interesting observation is that this year's class loves Type to Learn. Some of the students have nearly reached the goal for mid-November (Level 13). 
    We begin leveled literature groups the week of October 17. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of each week for several weeks, the class will be following a lit circle type of format to practice guided reading. Listen and watch for homework involving their lit. book.
