It's Second Semester!
It's hard to believe the school year is half over.  We are looking forward to many exciting things in January, February and March. January is bringing back to Coal Creek four former teachers who will be offering a "tutor time".  Each student in 4th grade will get the opportunity to work in small groups on reading and writing with the tutors.
February will bring Parent Teacher Conferences, Space Research, Math problem solving, Reading Comprehension strategies, and paragraph and long essay writing.  In math, we will finish up our first unit on multiplication and division and begin to look at fractions, decimals and percents.We'll look forward to our Valentine's Party on February 14.
With March comes our revised CSAP test (TCAP).  We will be testing from March 5th through the 16th.  During our testing window, we will begin our study of the Revolutionary War and have a presentation about Colonial Days.  We will also be reading and analyzing Biographies and another round of Historical Fiction from the Revolutionary War period. Spring Break begins on March 26th.  I'm afraid it will be here before we know it.
I'm looking forward to sitting down with each student and their parents to talk about wonderful achievements so far this year and additional goals for the last trimester.  Please sign up for conferences online.  February 13, 15 and 16th are the dates set aside for conferences.  Please let me know if these dates don't work for you and we can make other arrangements.
Thank you for all of your support and help throughout the first semester.  The students have done an outstanding job adjusting to the demands of fourth grade.  I am so proud of all of them.
