Everything I need to know for the 1st week of Kindergarten…
Welcome to Crestview. We’ve listed some frequently asked questions that will help you get through the 1st week of school.
What does my child need for school?
It is important that your child bring a backpack. It should be large enough to carry his/her Friday Folder, coat, library books and lunch box if applicable. Students should bring their backpack to school every day.
What are school hours?
8:00 – 10:45 (AM Kindergarten/Kindergarten Enrichment)
10:45 – 11:45 Lunch/recess for those who attend Kindergarten Enrichment
11:45 – 2:30 (PM Kindergarten/Kindergarten Enrichment)
If your child is going home after the morning session you need to pick them up at the Kindergarten exterior doors promptly at 10:45 am.
For students staying for the optional, for-fee, Kindergarten Enrichment classes, a para-professional will take them to the cafeteria, and supervise them during the lunch recess.
The afternoon session begins at 11:45. The lunch para-professionals line the children up outside the appropriate classroom door. If your child only attends the afternoon session, bring your child to the appropriate Kindergarten exterior door by 11:45.
The afternoon session ends at 2:30. You will let you child’s afternoon teacher know how they get home from school (bus, Y Program, etc) during the Meet the Teacher session to be held before school begins.
Who watches my child at school once the bus drops them off in the morning?
Staff members monitor the bus-drop off area and help direct children to the appropriate area. There is a staff member in the Kindergarten play area 15 minutes before school and 5 minutes after to ensure no children are left in the play area.
What if my child is tardy?
If you arrive after the bell rings the Kindergarten outside doors are locked. You must check in at the office where the secretaries will change your attendance record and give you a tardy slip. .
Can I have a friend or other family member pick up my child?
Students must have a written note from their guardian signed by the office for any changes in bus transportation arrangements. Students will not be allowed to go home with other adults unless they are designated by you on the Emergency Contact list you complete at the beginning of school. Changes in pick-up (e.g., play dates) will need a note that your child can give to his/her teacher.
Is there food in the classroom?
You can pack a snack for your child that he/she can eat during recess. Please provide a small nutritious snack, no candy. There are water fountains in each room, but feel free to pack a water bottle. Throughout the year there are birthday celebrations, class parties, and teacher snacks.
What should I do if my child has a food allergy or special medical condition?
If your child has a food allergy or special medical condition, you will have informed the school of this information via the student health form. All teachers are informed IMMEDIATELY of students in their class with any serious health concerns.
This should help you to get through that very important first week of school. Almost every other question will be answered during the kindergarten orientation evening. Please plan to attend as we will go over many details on how to make this a great year for you and your child.
