Teaching Experience
I believe that life is one of the best resources for teaching. I come from a family of teachers: my father taught sales and motivation during his career, and both my brother and sister are teachers, as well. I began teaching in Virginia, where I taught almost all grades and did so for 12 years! I was blessed to have worked in different schools, having taught both at-risk and TAG children, and received a few Teaching Awards during that time.
Since having had our two children, Hannah and Ryan, I explored the field of freelance writing so that I could stay at home while our kids were small. I found that the internet was an amazing tool, and am proud that I never had to leave our home to follow that wonderful adventure! So, I am now a published author, having written over 600 educational and parenting articles, as well as poetry. I worked in Creative Consulting and am currently working on a non-fiction book (my first… coming along s l o w l y !) I have done a lot of public speaking and presentations over the years, a life skill that I love to share with my classes.
Since moving to Boulder in 2005, I have been teaching at Crest View! I have taught both 4th and 5th grades and have also fallen in love with the area and the amazing people. While teaching, I have also been involved in teaching fitness classes, dancing NIA and Soul Sweat, riding amazing trails, watching my amazing children grow, and enjoying life with my fantastic husband, Sean.
Personal Note
My life has been filled with reflections of a Positive Mental Attitude or, "PMA," and it is this enthusiasm for life that I feel guides me as a teacher. As I have said, writing and presentations are incredible life skills that I plan on sharing with my class, in addition to exploring the world and the people in it. Enthusiasm is a passion of mine, and sharing that is part of my mission! Ralph Waldo Emerson has shared it well:
"Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air… "
And
"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."
