Welcome to the Douglass Library!!!

 Book Club

Book and a Bagel  Book Club

Thank you to the great kids and parents who participated in our Savvy Book and Bagel Club.  I heard a lot of insightful comments, and I am pleased so many people enjoyed the book.  If you missed this B & B club, stay tuned for your next opportunity to participate.  We will have another session with the book N.E.R.D.S. by Michael Buckley in April.  Until then, happy reading!

 Author Visit

Kerry MacLean, author the Pigs Over series visited Douglass on Thursday, November 17th.  She worked with students to create a new book, Pigs over Boulder 2, due out in spring of 2012.  In addition to this author and student collaboration, 3rd grade classes performed a musical rendition of Pigs Over Colorado.  (To order one of Ms. MacLean's books, please print and fill the form labelled "Autographed Copy Order Form" under Documents on this web page.) It was pig-riffic time and a wonderful learning opportunity for our students!

 E-books

Students, staff, and parents may access these online books 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Users need to have Internet access and the Flash program needs to be installed on the computer in order to view all content.  Click on the link below to start reading.  Internet Safety Reminder

Attention Parents...

It is four o’clock in the afternoon: Even if you hear your youngster in the next room listening to music and clicking away on the computer, do you really know where your child is?  The Internet is a wonderful, powerful device.  But like most powerful tools, users need to heed caution.  While it is all too easy to think “not my child,” the trappings of the Internet are real.  Remember:

  • Monitor your child's Internet use.
  • Talk with your child.  Ask questions and ask often.
  • Keep your computer in an open, visiable place like the family room.
  • Be wary of cyber-bully, child-predator, and identity theft situations.  Report them appropriately.
  • Never share private information like your name, address, phone number or school on social sites.
  • Keep your spyware and anti-virus software up to date.
  • If you would not let your child say it or do it in real life, don't let them say it or do it online.

 Junior Great Books collection

Calling all parents...Has your child participated in Junior Great Books in past?  Don't let those previously read copies collect dust!  The Douglass library is collecting used Junior Great Books copies to catalog and make available for future students.  Just drop off your JGB Series two, three or Sun series, volume 1 and/or 2 to the library.  We will take care of the rest.  Thanks for helping students and the environment at the same time!
