Welcome to 3rd Grade! 3rd grade is a fun and exciting year, but it is also a huge transition year for your child. Our little girls and boys become one of the "big" kids in the school and with that comes higher expectations with organization, independence, and mature behavior. It is amazing to see the transformation they make from the beginning of 3rd to 4th grade! Listed below are some things you can do this summer to help your child get ready for 3rd grade.
READING/WRITING
-Go to the library; Make sure your child has lots of enjoyable and interesting books.
-Read independently for 20-30 minutes.
-Discuss the books with your child.
-Write stories, journal entries about summer, or letters to family and friends.
-Practice spelling correctly.
MATH
-Know all basic addition and subtraction facts 0-10.
-Practice skip counting (2-10) on and off decade. (example: Count by 2s starting with 17, 19, 21, 23, 25)
-Place value - know the value of a number. (example: 1,257 - The 2 is worth 200.)
-Work with flash cards.
-Play Yahtzee and other math games.
