Welcome to 4th Grade! This year you will become aware of your personal learning style and how to advocate for your understanding. Responsiblity of accomplishing your assignments will become independent (with support at first). Our goal is to help you become self-regulated and self-motivated learners. Listed below are some things you can do this summer to help your child get ready for 4th grade.
READING/WRITING
-Go to the library; choose enjoyable and interesting books to read.
-Read independently for 30 minutes every morning and evening.
-Discuss the books with your family (your pets count).
-Write stories, journal entries about summer, or letters to family and friends.
-Email your 4th grade teachers.
-Practice spelling patterns
-Make a list of words you want to learn.
MATH
-Practice all basic addition and subtraction facts 0-10.
-Place value - know the value of a number. (example: 1,257 - The 2 is worth 200.)
-Practice skip counting (2-10) on and off decade. (example: Count by 2s starting with 17, 19, 21, 23)
-Play cards and board games with friends and family.
SCIENCE
-Explore the world around you
-- Write notes and draw pictures of your observations
-- Make a list of questions and I wonder statements
