The Walk & Roll committee encourages students to take alternative transportation to and from school for their own health and the health of the environment. It’s also plain fun – we’ve even had students arrive on pogo sticks and stilts. Our motto is “Everything Counts!” If you live too far away to walk or bike, consider bus riding, carpooling and even parking your car one or two blocks away from school. We have ongoing programs, and special events throughout the year. To volunteer, please contact Juliet Boyd, (303) 475-0552 or juliet_boyd@me.com

YEAR-ROUND
Park & Walk: Park your car at least one or two blocks away and walk students to and from school. This relieves traffic congestion in front of the school, making it safer for everyone. Make it fun with a scooter or skateboard, or designate meeting points to Walk & Roll with a group!
Carbon Challenge: Each morning in the classrooms, students put a pinto bean into the Walk & Roll jar if they used alternative transportation that day (Everything Counts). At the end of the year, students estimate how many beans were collected and the closest guess receives a prize. In our first year (’08-’09) we collected 30,000 beans, representing about 6,000 gallons of gas saved – and all the resulting pollution!

WALK TO SCHOOL WITH BOULDER MAYOR SUSAN OSBORNE!!!
INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

Cliff Bar is providing their healthy snacks to all that walk and roll to school and will be handed out in front of the school.  Coffee will be available to parents
Cliff bar is providing healthy snacks of ZBaRs, Z-Fruits and ZCrispys.
Bus students will have a quick course so they can participate.

We are proud to announce that Susan Osborne, Mayor of Boulder will be participating with Flatirons for the International Walk to School Day.

We are looking for VOLUNTEERS to help our students celebrate and participate in International Walk to School Day!  We need many parents to help kids walk safely from areas in our neighborhood.  Buses are scheduled to drop-off at the Boulder Justice Center and we need parents to walk the students up to Flatirons, perhaps a PARADE (Funny Hats, Noise Makers, etc.)!!!

There will literally be MILLIONS of students walking or riding their bikes to school this day.  From Sweden to Great Britain, New York to California!!  In 2002, students, parents and teachers in all 50 states joined nearly 3 MILLION walkers from around the world!!  Let’s keep this momentum going and make a difference in our community.

We encourage ALL to find some wacky wear, hats, noise makers, decorate your bikes and ride and stride to school!!

We will also be collecting used shoes ALL NEXT WEEK, October 3rd-7th in the front entry way. These shoes make a huge difference in our communities!!  They will be recycled to make rubberized playgrounds and athletic fields for kids.

Please let me know if you can volunteer with us on October 5th!!  We really need your help!

Thanks for your support!!
