Walk & Roll

Walking map for Flatirons.

The Walk & Roll committee encourages students to take alternative transportation to and from school for their own health and the health of the environment.  It's also plain fun - we've even had students arrive on pogo sticks and stilts.  Our motto is "Everything Counts!"  If you live too far away to walk or bike, consider bus riding, carpooling and even parking your car one or two blocks away from school.  We have ongoing programs, and special events throughout the year.  To volunteer, please contact Amy Love at (303) 527-0451 or amyelove@gmail.com.

International Walk to School Day - Wednesday, October 8, 2014 - 10 Volunteers Needed!

Please call or email Amy Love at (303) 527-0451 or amyelove@gmail.com if you are able to volunteer to help walk students to school from the Justice Center at 6th & Canyon at 7:55 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8th.

BVSD Trip Tracker supports safer school zones, cleaner air and active kids.
Does your student Walk, Bike, Scoot, take the Bus, or Carpool with another family to school??
If so, would you like your student to be rewarded for doing just that?  They can spend the dollars around town just like real cash!
Sign them up for Trip Tracker!  It’s easy!  Find out more by going to http://www.bvsd.org/transportation/toschool/tracker/Pages/default.aspx

…to register and download the trip tracker calendar for Aug/Sept.

Already registered?   Download the calendar to get started!

Each day your student will mark on the calendar how she/he got to school.  At the end of September tally the trips for the month.  You will receive an email (to the email address you registered under) asking you to report the number of trips for the month.  Then, on a day in October, Trip Tracker Dollars will be distributed to the students during their lunch time.  (Kindergartners will get their dollars with Friday folders.)
Have questions, email me at amyelove@gmail.com.  I’ll be happy to help answer any question you have about the program.  Thanks for your support!

YEAR ROUND

Trip Tracker Program
Trip Tracker encourages and rewards students for walking, biking, skating, scooting, busing or carpooling to school. Families record their alternative transportation trips and send them in via a monthly e-mailed survey (or on paper calendars when no e-mail is available). Totals are generated for 'Student-Powered', 'Other-Powered' and 'School Bus'

Trip Tracker Dollar Rewards are given based on number of trips and number of miles each month. These 'dollars' can be spent like cash at participating local businesses (see list on BVSD webpage). The program is currently running at twelve Boulder schools (see list on BVSD webpage). For program details, please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). If you are interested in having Trip Tracker at your school, please contact peter.hurst@bvsd.org.

Park & Walk:  Park your car at least one or two blocks away and walk students to and from school.  This relieves traffic congestion in front of  the school, making it safer for everyone.  Make it fun with a scooter or skateboard, or designate meeting points to Walk & Roll with a group!

Carbon Challenge:  Each morning use alternative transporation (Everything Counts!).  Keep track and and the end of the year calculate how many miles and gallons of gas saved - and all the resulting pollution.

The Flatirons Walk & Roll committee was started in 2006 as part of the national Safe Routes to School initiative.  In 2008 it became a committee of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).
