Welcome to Art at Flatirons Elementary!
In art, we explore various techniques, processes, and media including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and much more. We learn through actively engaging in interactive arts lessons focused on creative problem solving and cross-curricular connections. All lessons meet the Colorado Common Core Mastery Standards provided by the state. Student art will be on display throughout the hallways and at multiple art shows during the course of the year.
Art Portfolios are sent home twice a year; once right before winter break and again before summer break. After projects have been on display, I collect the work and store it inside the portfolio each child personalized at the beginning of the year. Hopefully, you can sit down with your child and look at all their art they have created over the semester and share in meaningful dialogue together.
Although we try very hard to keep clean in the art room, our creativity sometimes get the best of us and we end up with a mess. Please dress for art in darker, more casual clothes and please remember that most everything we use is washable and non-toxic so with a little elbow grease and some pre-treatment laundering should go smoothly.
Flatirons Elementary will participate in KidzArt again this year! This is a wonderful fundraising opportunity that supports the arts at Flatirons. KidzArt is a company that reproduces your child’s artwork on professionally made products like magnets, mugs and mousepads. This will be our first major project in art. Please look to the art page on the school website for more information regarding ordering soon.
About Mrs. Hazzard:
Hello! I am very excited to be a part of the Flatirons Elementary School community! I have taught art for six years, most of which in Poudre School District, and this will be my first year in Boulder Valley. I studied at Colorado State University where I earned my teaching license and my BFA with a double concentration in Drawing and Graphic Design with a minor in Art History. I have also earned my Masters of Education from Lesley University in Curriculum and Instruction: Teaching Creatively Through the Arts. I am a practicing artist and avid painter. I am very much looking forward to helping to cultivate the artist in your child. Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 720.561.4623.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” ~Pablo Picasso
