| | | NEW VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND SCREENING PROCESS THROUGH CBI
ONE TIME FINGERPRINTING WILL LAST THROUGHOUT YOUR ENTIRE TIME WITH BOULDER VALLEY SCHOOLS
The Boulder Valley School District is continuing to require our volunteers to have background screenings. We are excited they are providing the new option of doing background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. This is the best way to complete your background check because this will allow you to complete it once, and it will be good for all of the years that you are associated with BVSD. You will not need to complete it each year as we did with TCLogiQ. It can take CBI up to twelve weeks to complete the processing so we encourage you to try and complete this process as soon as possible. If you have had your fingerprints taken before, you still need to repeat the process. Please follow this procedure:
1. A convenient location to get fingerprints taken is at the Boulder County Sheriff Office at 5600 Flatiron Pkwy in Boulder, 303.441.3600. They are open Monday through Friday 11 am to 4:30 pm. For Boulder County Residents, it is $10.00 per card and for non-Boulder County residents, it is $15.00 per card. The fingerprinting cards will be available there. It is CASH OR CHECK ONLY. Please check at Heatherwood if you need a scholarship.
2. When you complete your fingerprints, please bring your fingerprinting card, a completed Volunteer Background Screening CBI/Fingerprint Information Sheet and a check for $39.50 made out to the Boulder Valley School District to the office at Heatherwood Elementary before May 31, and we will send them in through the District mail. After May 31, please take your information to the Education Center at 6500 East Arapahoe in Boulder and drop it off in Human Resources.
3. All volunteers will also need to complete and submit directly to the Heatherwood office the Volunteer Agreement (Non-Coaching) 2012-2013 School Year form.
Required Forms:
1. Volunteer Background Screening CBI/Fingerprint Information Sheet to be submitted with your fingerprints.
2. Volunteer Agreement (Non-Coaching) 2012-2013 School Year form

There have been some questions about our PAWS for Pride and Respect, Personal Responsibility, Perseverance, and Peacefulness Program. Students have the opportunity to earn PAWS for Applause tickets by displaying PAWS positive behaviors. These expectations have been taught to every student and are posted on PAWS posters around the school. When a student receives a ticket, they then take it to the office and put it into the raffle jar. Throughout each month our teachers pull from the jar names of students who have earned PAWS tickets. These students are then invited to bring their lunch or to have hot lunch at a special table in the cafeteria with me or with a special guest teacher -- we host two lunches every month. A treat for dessert is provided for the PAWS lunch recipients making for a rewarding experience for all. We keep track of students who have received a lunch so there is no repetition, as we would like as many students as possible to have this opportunity. In addition to our special lunches, if a student earns ten PAWS tickets, they are then presented with a certificate to redeem for a PAWS-itive Role Model bracelet. Our goal is to make sure that all students will receive a PAWS ticket during the school year. The implementation of this positive behavior support program, combined with our “Buddies Don’t Bully” bully proofing lessons and strategies, will help to create and foster a caring environment at Heatherwood. | 12/9/2010 |
| | | The Learning Fair is a celebration of children’s learning and the acknowledgment of children’s interest in the world around them. Whether students inquire about something that sparks their interest or reach out beyond themselves to give time and assistance to someone in need, the Learning Fair encourages everyone’s act of discovery. http://bvsd.org/schools/heatherwood/activities/Pages/default.aspx#sciencelearn

It works like our Grocery Certificate Program already in place. Heatherwood families purchase gift certificates from participating local and national retailers (same ones you would buy right from the store) at face value and use them to earn dollars for the school.
