 Homework

Here's some homework for you over the summer.

1.  Check out Education City's website.

www.educationcity.com
Try the grade level(s) where you meet the most success.  Then challenge
yourself to an even harder level if you can.

2.  Help your parents cook and do chores over the summer.  You'll have fun while
learning how to use reading, writing, and math every day.

3.  Go to a library and check out some books.  Libraries are wonderful places in
which to spend some free time.

4.  Find an author whose work you love.  Read as many of his/her books as
     possible.

5.  Enjoy the great out of doors.  We are so lucky to live in such a gorgeous state
as Colorado.  If you have time, visit some of the geological and historical sites
found here - Bent's Old Fort, the Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, Trail Ridge
road in Rocky Mountain National Forest, etc.

6.  If your family takes a road trip, help them calculate mileage, navigation, and
meals.  Also, figure out some easy ways to keep yourself entertained.

7.  Try visiting some of the websites listed below.

Have a wonderful summer!

Ms. Kelley has been teaching at Heatherwood since 1990, and she is one of the teachers on the third grade team.  "Heatherwood and I go a long way back," she says.  "My daughter went to school here.  I worked as a paraprofessional here, and now I'm back into teaching here.  Heatherwood is my home away from home."
Ms. Kelley was born and raised in the heart of the Deep South, Louisiana.  She attended Louisiana Tech University and began teaching upon graduation.  After a move to Atlanta, Georgia, she left the field of education, married, and raised a family.  During this hiatus from teaching, Ms. Kelley took on part-time jobs in data processing and in theatrical costuming.  Upon her move to Colorado, Ms. Kelley once again immersed herself in the educational field by volunteering at Heatherwood and then joining the staff as a paraprofessional in 1981 and as a teacher in 1990.
When asked her favorite aspect of teaching, Ms. Kelley replied, "I love watching kids get excited about learning and the 'Aha!' moments.  From this excitement comes self-motivation, confidence, and success."
Ms. Kelley enjoys reading mysteries and historical fiction, quilting, walking, writing, and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson.  She also enjoys playing with her menagerie of animals whenever possible.
