Teacher Time: Many teachers have “office hours” during which parents may stop in to talk. You are encouraged to schedule time with your child’s teacher any time you have questions or concerns. In addition, teacher’s emails are posted in our yearly directory and on their individual "classroom page". Naturally, we ask that you use discretion when contacting teachers as they can get easily over-loaded by a multitude of requests.
Conference Communication: Conferences at Horizons are designed to allow your student to organize, and present their work which shows their growth over time. Although you can feel free to voice concerns at this time, we encourage you to contact your student’s teachers when concerns come up at any time during the school year.
Café & Conversation: Our lead teacher, Sonny Zinn, offers monthly morning meetings with parents that are open-ended. At this time, feel free to bring questions, concerns, kudos, ideas, brainstorms, etc. Many topics raised at these meetings have become all school surveys that informed us of new directions and considerations, or continued as Pre-Council Conversation.
Pre Council Conversation: We will usually have a 30 minute pre-council conversation about specific topics that parents have indicated are of interest. Topics are posted with the Council Agenda a week prior to the Council meeting.
Council Meetings: We post the agenda of every Council Meeting a week prior to the meeting. Parents are invited to all Council meetings but if there is one that will be addressing a topic of specific interest, please plan on attending. This is a great time to have your voice and opinion heard in a way that really makes a difference. One vote can change our direction! It is our goal that every family will be represented at Council at least once a year.
Meetings with Sonny & Nel: If you would like to schedule time with Sonny and/or Nel, please contact them by e-mail. Their e-mail addresses are listed in our school directory.
Skylines: our weekly newsletter is e-mailed to every family in the Horizons community. If you do not receive our newsletter, please contact Hope.
