High Peaks Programs
TAG Program
High Peaks believes that all students should be offered challenging educational opportunities. For many students, the High Peaks curriculum provides that challenge. For other students, additional challenge is provided through our TAG program. The TAG Program provides a framework for supporting advanced learning for all students. Our TAG Program, based on the School-Wide Enrichment Model, is comprised of in-class differentiation, pull out classes, acceleration, independent studies and enrichment activities.

English as a Second Language
High Peaks Elementary offers quality language support to our English language learners through individualized instruction based on the students’ needs. The program seeks to affirm students’ cultural background and experiences, embrace the native language, and facilitate language acquisition. Language learners may receive supplementary English instruction targeting oral, listening, reading, and writing skills in a small group. Additionally, the ESL teacher works collaboratively with the classroom teachers to ensure enriching classroom instruction. The program also provides classroom teachers with resources to use in their classrooms such as: realia, visual aids, book sets, and teacher resource books. All ESL instruction is articulated with the Core Knowledge curriculum so that the students may succeed academically in the classroom. Several of our teachers have been working towards certification in teaching culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
Special Education
High Peaks offers special education services to students determined to have needs through an eligibility process. We serve children through an inclusion model, where children get help in their regular classroom as much as possible, but also may participate in small pull-out groups. We also use paraprofessionals if needed to support children throughout the day.

Kindergarten Enrichment
The BVSD Kindergarten Enrichment program at High Peaks offers kindergartners a full day school experience. Classes meet either in the morning or the afternoon. For students enrolled in the Kindergarten Enrichment program, school starts and ends at the same time as first through fifth grade students. Children have lunch in the cafeteria, and are supported through the lunchtime transitions with the help of the KE teacher, Lea Maes, and paraprofessionals. The KE program is based on the belief that children are born learners. They come into the world as curious and unique individuals right from the start. To encourage and build on this natural curiosity and desire to learn, our classroom provides daily opportunities for exploration, creativity, and self expression. The program is rich with play, children’s literature, art projects, and more. Lea Maes has been our KE teacher since 2001. She has a warm and welcoming teaching style, while at the same time holding a well-structured and functional classroom environment. Please contact Lea at 720-561-6543 with any questions.
