This is my eighth year at High Peaks and my tenth year teaching elementary school. I love the Core Knowledge curriculum because I get to learn just as much as my students! After teaching third grade for many years, I am excited to be helping with literacy support and in the library after finishing a graduate degree in school library and information technologies. I hope to help students get even more excited about reading and navigate the vast world of information. I grew up in New Jersey and received a bachelor's degree in geography from Middlebury College in Vermont. Eleven years ago I was drawn to the mountains and moved to Colorado to pursue my degree in teaching at the University of Colorado. When not at school, I am spending time with my young son and my husband. We love to hike, bike, telemark ski, and travel

Karen Weaver Karen Weaver - ESL Teacher
I am working part-time at High Peaks as the English Language Acquisition (ESL) teacher. I have worked for BVSD since 2001 as an Early Childhood Coordinator and ESL teacher. Before that, I  was an ESL instructor at Michigan State University, for six years. I am excited to combine my Early Childhood, Elementary Education and ESL degrees to connect with a wide range of children. I am passionate about helping all children learn. I believe that the love of learning sprouts from a child’s sense of wonder and through authentic, integrated learning experiences. I have also taught children in Haiti and Latin America and have seen that enhancing curiosity and perseverance are universal to success. I am excited to work with such an amazing community of parents, teachers and children at High Peaks.

Though I am not a Colorado native, I moved to Boulder in 1995 and am proud to call it my home. I received one of my two undergraduate degrees from the University of Colorado, Boulder and recently completed a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado, Denver. I also hold a State of Colorado Endorsement in Special Education. This will be my fourth year working in the Boulder Valley School District.
Having spent the first half of my life living across the globe (Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland) I am culturally savvy and hope to bring this perspective to my position. My wife Deryn and I just celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. Along with our two dogs, we live just around the corner and love our community. I am overjoyed to be teaching at my neighborhood school!
