I have been teaching at High Peaks since Fall 2000. I have my Bachlors and Masters Degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Kindergarten is my passion! There is nothing more amazing than watching a child discover that they can read, understand how math is everywhere or that they, themselves can be an author. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two kids and two dogs.

Tell me and I forget.  Teach me and I remember.  Involve me and I learn.” -Benjamin Franklin.
As an educator, I am committed to student achievement, continuous learning and collaboration, and building community in-side and out of my classroom.  In my twelfth year of  teaching, I am seeking a Master of Arts with a National Board Certified Teacher Leadership degree.  I am a certified Collaborative Literacy Intervention Specialist and am trained in Add+Vantage Math Recovery assessment and teaching.  High Peaks has been a part of my life since 2003.  This school year, I am the Education Decision Team Teacher Co-chair and I look forward to utilizing the incredible resources within the High Peaks community to continue to support, enrich, and engage our students in best quality elementary educational experience possible.

My teaching career started in Iowa. Since those early years, I have taught in Arizona and Colorado. After twenty years in elementary classrooms, I love being at High Peaks. During my free time (which is very limited during the school year), I love to spend time with my husband, Doug, and dogs, Charlie and Dexter. Reading, hiking, biking, cross-stitching, and gardening also top my list of pleasurable activities. My husband and I enjoy living in the foothills with deer, foxes, raccoons, skunks, and an occasional bear (or mountain lion---yikes!) making appearances. During vacation times, my husband and I love to catch up with family or travel to a beach locale for some snorkeling.

I have been at High Peaks since 2000 teaching first, second, and third grades. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology and elementary education at Roanoke College, VA. I earned my Masters degree from CU Boulder in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity. A highlight of that program was being able to teach English as a foreign language in Puebla, Mexico. I enjoy outdoor activities, especially running and skiing. I was born in Massachusetts, went to college in Virginia, and have lived in Colorado since 1999. I love to travel and learn about new cultures and their people.

I earned my undergraduate degree at CU Boulder in Anthropology. I received my Masters degree at CU Denver in Curriculum and Instruction. I completed the Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity program at CU Bouler. I taught English as a foreign language in Puebla, Mexico. My husband and I have 4 children - 3 graduates of CU and one attending CU. I like to spend my leisure time pursuing skiing, gardening, and hiking.

This is my third year at High Peaks Elementary School.  I am originally from Nebraska and received my masters in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Denver.  I have been teaching for four years in Denver Public Schools, and was in the business world in Portland, Oregon for five years prior to that.  My teaching experience has been in teh fourth grade, third grade, sixth grade and fifth grade.  Being relatively new to Boulder, I still can't believe the view we get to enjoy here everyday!  In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors, traveling, hiking, running , yoga, reading, drawing and playing with my Golden Retriever, Bailey.

I am excited to teach at High Peaks because I love Boulder. I am a Colorado native. I moved to Boulder for college, and I’ve been in the area ever since.  While at CU I met my husband, Brian. We have three beautiful children – two daughters and a son. Additionally, I earned a BA in Biology along with an elementary teaching certificate. I returned to CU for my Masters degree in Education (emphasis in literacy). I taught 1st and 2nd grades for three years and later I became a 3rd grade literacy tutor for some of the same kids I taught. After spending 10 years away from the classroom, I returned to teaching. I taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades at Superior Elementary School in Boulder Valley. Besides teaching, my passions include photography, hiking, skiing, and swimming.

Rebecca Badding - Fourth Grade
I am proud to say that this will be my first year teaching at High Peaks Elementary!  I love the High Peaks community and am thrilled to be a part of it.  I graduated the University of Colorado in 2009 with my degree in Psychology and Neuroscience, as well as my Elementary Education teaching certification.  I have experience in both Boulder Valley and St. Vrain School Districts as a Special Education Para, a Math and Literacy Interventionist, a subsitute teacher , and as the Director of a before and after school program.  Besides teaching, I love reading, photography, snowboarding, camping, going to the ballpark (Go Rockies!), and of course - laughing!  Know any good jokes?

Zachary Fink - Fourth Grade
I grew up in West Bloomfield, Michigan (Detroit suburbs) and attended college at Michigan State University (Go Green!).  At Michigan State, I studied Communications, Elementary Education and football.  I solidified my passion for education while exploring school systems abroad in Western Europe.  Since then I have not questioned for a minute that my calling is in the classroom.  After completing my year long internship, I traveled to Colorado with a dream to teach in the mountains.  Thus, the last 3 years I taught 5th grade in the Vail Valley.  My love for the mountains remained, but my desire for more city-life has led me here.  I can't even begin to tell you how exciting it is to be part of the community here in Boulder and at High Peaks.

This is my 13th year teaching at High Peaks and I still find the Core Knowledge curriculum exciting and challenging. When not teaching, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors camping, snowshoeing, hiking and skiing. I’m a Colorado native and my daughter is excelling in the 8th grade in BVSD.

Born and raised in Colorado, I love the mountains and the endless sunshine here. My high school years were spent in Frederick, Colorado and my college years at CU in Boulder. After working for eight years in financial services, I left the corporate world for the classroom and have not looked back. I have taught both 4th and 5th grades in Denver and in Boulder.
When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me digging in my community garden plot, attending yoga class or walking my best friend (a fluffy, white Bichon Frise) on an open-space trail.
