Science Fair  is a school wide non-competitive program.  This year, the Science Fair is April 18th and 19th  All Students are encouraged to participate in the Science Fair (it is mandatory for 3rd and 5th graders).  Download Science Fair packet.  Contact Beth Helgans to volunteer to help with Science Fair.  

BVSD Literary Magazine and High Peak Tales and Poetry - Each spring High Peaks Elementary School and the Boulder Valley School District TAG Office each publish a literary magazine containing poems, stories, and artwork produced by Boulder Valley students. High Peaks students are encouraged to use their literary and artistic talents to develop submissions for these publications.  All students are encouraged to submit creative work for these magazines.  Deadline for submission is early February.

Math Olympiad  -  meets weekly for an hour. Students explore a topic or strategy in depth or they practice for the contests.  The highlights for students are the five monthly contests, given from November to March. These contests provide an incentive for students to intensify their study of math.

 Spelling Bee - 4th and 5th grade students participate in a spelling bee at High Peaks Elementary. The school winner then moves on to the Boulder Valley District Spelling Bee. Winners may go as far as the state and national level bees.  The High Peaks Spelling Bee will take place on January 20th at 9 am.

  

 

Geography Bee - 4th and 5th grade students participate in the National GeoBee sponsored by National Geographic Magazine.  The Geography Bee takes place on December 9th at 9 am.  See more pictures from this year's bee.  Thanks to Alek Komarnitsky for taking pictures.

 

 

 

 

 

 

After School Challenge Activities

Wednesday Chess Club is open to all High Peaks students. Students will learn basic chess moves and strategies in this fun club. $20 donation is requested so that we can hire a chess teacher to provide strategy lessons during some club sessions. Chess Club is sponsored by the Ed Team’s Challenge Committee. Parent volunteers are needed to support this club.

Dates: February 1st - March

Times: 2:15-3:15pm

Location: Ms. McCarthy's 1st Grade Class

Cost: Donation of $20 appreciated to cover the cost of chess lessons.
