Keyboarding Contest.pdfKeyboarding Contest.pdf

To support our incoming 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders with keyboarding skills over the summer, we are providing free access to Typing Pal. You may log in to this program by clicking on this link or copying this URL in to your internet browser:  http://school.typingpal.com/index_ecole.asp?bvsdloes.  You may also access this site by going to the LES home page and clicking on the Typing Pal link on the upper right hand corner. Once on the Typing Pal website, students will need to log in with their personal username and password. Usernames are the first letter of your first name, followed by the first 7 letters of your last name, then the last 4 digits of your lunch code. Your password is “bvsd” followed by your entire lunch code.
Example: Jane Hernandez, lunch code: 123456
Username: jhernand3456
Password: bvsd123456
To encourage success and commitment to improving typing skills, we have three levels of prizes (bronze, silver, and gold) that students may earn over the summer by reaching the following grade level goals:
Incoming 3rd Grade:
Bronze: 10 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)
Silver: 20 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)
Gold: 30 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)

Incoming 4th grade:
Bronze: 20 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)
Sliver: 30 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)
Gold: 40 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)

Incoming 5th grade:
Bronze: 30 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)
Silver: 40 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)
Gold: 50 words/min (minimum 80% accuracy)

Students will enter this task at all different keyboarding levels for their grade. Many should be able to reach bronze, which we hope will motivate them to continue to improve skills and move on to a higher level. The bar goes up for each grade, which reflects typical keyboarding development.  Every student can earn a prize regardless of how fast they type in the beginning as long as they show growth in speed.  Our hope is that all students improve their typing skills, and that many will reach Gold before they leave LES. Prizes will be awarded at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year
