Mesa School Committees
For the 2011-2012 school year, the Collaboration Planning Team has strategically identified math as the main area of focus for Collaboration Time. This year’s professional development activities in math will include horizontal and vertical articulation, the development and interpretation of formative assessments, collaboration with BVSD math coaches, and other activities, with the end goal of developing a common language and approach to math instruction.
PST Primary and Intermediate teams meet on alternating weeks. Both teams seek to collaborate with parents to develop supports for individual children in the classroom. A student may be referred to the PST Team by his or her classroom teacher or parents. Before an initial meeting, the classroom teacher and parents of the struggling student are asked to fill out background information on the student that guides the conversation at the meeting. At a PST meeting, these documents are referred to when developing a desired standards-based outcome. After interventions have been brainstormed, a timeline is put in place to monitor the intervention. A follow-up meeting is always scheduled as well, and at this meeting the team discusses the student’s successes or challenges and brainstorms additional interventions if needed.
