School Counselor Interventionist
OUR MISSION
The mission of the New Vista High School Counseling and Prevention program is to ensure a safe and supportive environment in which all students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for their academic, career and personal/social development to become life-long learners, creative thinkers, and responsible individuals.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
-
Student learning is maximized through the whole person – social, emotional, cognitive, and physical – and in conjunction with that individual’s personal development.
-
Education should consider and address individual student needs, gifts, talents, and strengths.
-
As do adults, adolescents have choices, and education, as well as basic human development, require that adolescents be given the opportunity to explore choices and consequences.
-
Adolescents need and want genuine, positive, supportive, safe relationships with adults and each other. Given these conditions and the opportunity to explore the choices they have, adolescents have the capacity to make good decisions for themselves, their peers, and their community.
A TEAM APPROACH
The counseling program includes and supports a team effort, which involves not only the counseling staff, but also the school’s advisors, social worker, school psychologist, administration, teachers, and other staff. We engage in a collaborative effort to support each student throughout their high school career.
OUR ROLES
Our school counselor and intervention specialist use a team approach to best support and meet the needs of all New Vista students.
HOW TO SEE ONE OF OUR COUNSELORS
It is preferred that students meet with a counselor during non-class time unless it is an urgent matter.
It is preferred that Parents call or email our counselors to arrange an appointment. Please do not drop by unless it is urgent.
