- Explanation of Letter Grades
-
- Letter grades reflect an evaluation of students' work in relation to the clear and high expectations that teachers have established for their courses in terms of both the quantity and quality of work. Some classes are graded on a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory basis. Teachers may give plus or minus additions to letter grades.
New Vista Letter grades should be interpreted as follows:
A The student has exceeded the high expectations of the course (excellent effort and products).
B The student has met the high expectations of the course (good, completely satisfactory effort and products).
C The student has shown some effort and is showing growth, but is not meeting the high expectations of the course.
D This grade is not used at New Vista High School but may appear for courses taken at other high schools.
IP The student has made Insufficient Progress. In a student’s GPA, an IP has zero value.
NG No grade. Used as an interim grade when a course is spread over more than one term.
I Incomplete due to medical, personal or family emergency
WF Withdrawn Failing. Awarded when a class is dropped between the 8th and 15th day of classes in any quarter regardless of work done to that point.
S Satisfactory. Awarded in Workshops, Community Experience, some Learning Unit Contracts and some credit given for prior course work in another school.
