I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with you this year as your M-15 Math teacher. This year we continue to use Connected Math 3 to further our knowledge of Math. M15 is based on the Common Core Standards and focuses on four areas; (1) understanding and applying proportional relationships; (2) operations with rational numbers including variable expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawing, informal geometric constructions, and area of 2D figures, surface area and volume of 3D shapes; (4) drawing and inferences about populations based on samples.
The advanced 7th grade math students will be working on M-25, which will continue to use the Connected Math 3 Program. M25 is based on the Common Core Standards and focuses on three critical areas; (1) formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations including solving linear equations and systems of equations; (2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; (3) analyzing 2 and 3D space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean theorem.
The seventh grade science content is aligned with the curriculum standards for middle school science and is primarily focused on Life Science. Students will study classification, ecology, human body systems and botany. Students will explore the living world through the use of microscopes, dissections, experimentation, group projects, and field trips to local ecosystems. Students will have a variety of experiences in science, which includes hands-on experiments, labs, writing about science, and direct instruction.
