Brie Doyle brie.doyle@bvsd.org The 6th grade language arts curriculum includes units of speech, personal narrative writing, persuasive essay writing, mystery writing, diversity biographies, research, and poetry. these units are based on the Colorado Model Content Standards. The curriculum incorporates a solid foudation of grammer and spelling. John Riggs john.riggs@bvsd.org Math 1 is designated to review, strengthen, and extend skills and concepts previously learned. Topics studied include number sense (integers, fractions, decimals, and percents), probability and data analysis, geometry (coordinate graphing), and algebra (using variables to describe patterns) are some concepts covered in this course.

Betsy McBeth betsy.mcbeth@bvsd.org Sixth graders will study the Western Hemisphere, excluding the U.S. Students will focus on the components of civilizations both ancient and modern with regional studies of Canada, Mexico, Central America, Caribbean Islands, and South America. At least one ancient river civilization will be used as a tool for comparing and contrasting components of civilizations. Physical science is the introduction of chemistry and physics. Students will learn vocabulary, concepts, scientific processes and skills through text materials, lab activities, and projects. Units of study include microcopy, simple machines and inventions, motion, forces and energy, sound and light, magnetism and electricity, matter and chemistry, work, power and machines, and ecology
