Welcome to TAG Math!

TAG Math "pull-out" classes were created for our TAG (talented and gifted) students.  Classes will meet during intervention time twice a week from Sept 2011 until mid-May 2012. 

3rd grade:  Tue/Wed   8:15 - 9:00  
4th grade:  Tue/Wed   10:40 - 11:25
5th grade:  Tue/Wed   12:50 - 1:30

Mrs. Carpenter will also "push-in" to regular grade level classes, usually during math time, to work with high ability students.

2/7   Starter:  The mystery number has ... A 8 in the Thousands place.  A 5 in the Hundreds place.  A 2 in the Tens place.  A 4 in the Ten Thousands place.  A 2 in the Ones place.  What is the mystery number ?   Line Design 3-1

2/7   Starter:  2)  If 3 is added to twice a number, the result is 17.  Find the number.  (write an equation, solve, and check)

Lesson:  Hands on Equations lesson 9 (blue pawn is the opposite of the white pawn, such that x + x = 0)  Intro to integers 

 

2/8   Starter:  The sum of all the digits in the numbers 34, 35, and 36 is 24 because (3+4)+(3+5)+(3+6) = 24.  Find the sum of all digits in the first 25 numbers: 1, 2, 3, …, 23, 24, 25. 

Lesson:  addition and subtraction of integers

2/8   Starter:  A chain of numbers is made by using the following rule:  Divide by 5 if the number is divisible by 5.  Otherwise add 4.  Which positive integer below 10 will never come back to itself? 

Lesson:  mathematical opposites (add vs subtract, multiply vs divide, positive & negative numbers, reciprocals)
