BEAST Leadership Club: BEAST Leaders is a new club this year whose focus will be to support our community building program BEAST (Bring Everyone at Summit Together) as well as to create events and activities at school that build our strong and caring culture. We meet Wednesdays at lunch in Room 6. All are welcome, drop-ins included!
Board Games Club: Are you a word wiz? Are you ga-ga for games? Then come down to Portable E at lunch on Mondays for Scrabble and Bananagrams! Bring your lunch and feed your brain with wordy goodness!
Chess Club: Playing chess develops analytical reasoning and decision making skills, providing youth with a game to enjoy for a lifetime. The Summit Chess Club meets on Thursdays, from 3:15 to 4:15, beginning September 5th and ending after the State Chess Tournament, in March of 2014. We compete in the BVSD Chess League and typically enter a team in the Colorado State Chess Tournament. This year we are excited to have 2012 Summit graduate Jackson Chen assist with chess instruction; Jackson is an 8-time scholastic state chess champion, and is the current US Junior Open co-champion. The Chess Club is open to players of all abilities—come to compete, to play for fun or to learn how to play. Drop-ins are always welcome.
MathCounts: MATHCOUNTS provides a fun and challenging math program for US middle school students. Although the Summit Mathcounts club does not formally meet, anybody can qualify to represent Summit at the chapter competition by completing the Mathcounts exercises and turning them in to Mrs. de Nobrega. A new exercise set will be released every Friday and students can attend Mrs. de Nobrega's office hours for help. The school competition will take place in late January after which the school team will start meeting once a week to prepare for the chapter competition. If you would like to participate please email your name to Mrs. de Nobrega. Mathcounts exercises can be found at https://sites.google.com/a/bvsd.org/mrs-de-nobrega/mathcounts
NetZero Club: The NetZero Club is an environmental club that was founded to reduce the school’s carbon footprint. Students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles by heading up projects—it’s a chance to make a difference and change the world we live in. Past projects and activities include planting trees, filming a documentary, visiting a bio-fuel research lab, learning how to compost, hosting a “Get to school green” initiative, speaking before the Boulder City Council about single-use bags and much more. Last year the students of the NetZero club led the school community in an energy reduction contest and we were awarded a solar panel array for our efforts. We meet during lunch in rm. 22 all year long. Students are welcome to join anytime. NetZero Website: https://sites.google.com/site/summitnetzeroclub/
Nice, Educated, Radical Dudes and Dudettes: N.E.R.D. Club: N.E.R.D. Club meets Wednesdays at lunch in room 12. We play Magic the Gathering or other games, discuss science fiction and fantasy stories and shows, and share our different, unique interests with each other. Bring your lunch and come visit!
Portuguese Club: In Summit's Portuguese Club, we learn Brazilian Portuguese by reading books, listening to and playing music, watching film, dancing, and conversing with one another. Come extend you language skills and discover a new culture in Room 17 on Fridays at 12:00.
Programming Club: Learn to program for the first time, or learn to program better. All are welcome. Activities are self-paced, so you need not attend all meetings. Club resource: https://sites.google.com/a/bvsd.org/bradley/home/programming-club
Student Council: Devoted to providing social, service and leadership opportunities for our students. Whether planning Spirit Week, raising money to support earthquake victims, or leading classes in school decision making, Student Council members make a positive difference at Summit. We meet Mondays after school in Room 6 until 4 p.m.
Student Newspaper Club: Join the newspaper staff and contribute writing, photography, design, editing and technology skills to produce a monthly school newsletter. Meet on Thursdays during lunch in Room 6 with Ms. LaFrance. All grades are welcome to participate. Newspaper Club Website: https://sites.google.com/a/bvsd.org/summitnewspaper/
Ukulele Club: Come play Ukulele with Ms. Hendrick on Fridays in Ravenclaw computer lab. Whether learning or rehearsing you are sure to have a good time! Hawaiian shirts are always welcome.
Yearbook Club: Yearbook meets Monday's after school throughout the school year to put together the Summit Yearbook, which is distributed to students at the end of the year. Students take photos at school and community events, and then organize them into yearbook pages. They help to create the layout of the yearbook, create collages, and develop the overall theme. It is their time to shine and help make memories of Summit last a lifetime.
