I look forward to exploring our nation's history with you this year.  Together, we will uncover heroes, villains, and everyday people who helped to shape what it means to be an American. 
 
Supplies for this class:
 
1 1/2 - 2 inch 3 ring binder
five dividers for binder
two spiral notebooks
pencils, pens, colored pencils, one highlighter pen, one fine-tip black Sharpie pen, one dry erase marker

And, if you didn't finish in class, read “America’s First Steps Toward World Power,” textbook, pages 588-591.  In your spiral, answer the following questions:
1.  Describe how the U.S. expanded its power in the Pacific after negotiating a treaty with Japan. 
2.  How did the U.S. acquire Alaska?
3.  How did the U.S. expand its influence in Latin America (Central America)?  
4.   How and why did the U.S. acquire Hawaii?

I Am America:  Instead of a final exam, you will be conducting research on one extraordinary American of your choice, then creating a script and performing as this individual.
