Open Enrollment

OE Information

University Hill Elementary is a “choice school” meaning we are a 100% open enrollment (OE) school. Families choose to attend Uni Hill rather than their neighborhood school. An application (available in English or Spanish) must be turned in by the OE deadline. Applications are available at all public schools in the Boulder Valley School District.

Uni Hill offers full-day kindergarten and half-day preschool, options available at only a few BVSD schools. In recent years, about a third of our kindergarteners started with us in preschool. Children may also start our program in first grade, although space is limited. Once a child enrolls in Uni Hill, it becomes the child’s “school of attendance” for the following years.

As we have a dual-language program, please know:

1) We try to maintain equal numbers between the native English- and Spanish-speaking students. Sometimes a grade has space available for native speakers of one language but not the other. If your child is fully bilingual, you may choose “Uni Hill -- native English-speaker” as your first choice and “Uni Hill -- native Spanish-speaker” as your second choice or vice versa.

2) There are bilingual language requirements for enrollment at the second grade and above. Students may need to be tested by the BVSD Language and Literacy Services to ensure fulfillment of these requirements. Contact Uni Hill for more specific information.


During the OE application period, we provide scheduled tours and evening presentations with Q & A to families interested in learning more about our school. Our calendar has the days and times of these events and others you may want to attend.
