Years at Ryan: I have been at Ryan Elementary School since 1989. I have been the principal every year except one - the year my daughter was born, when I taught 5th grade.

Other related work experience:
Ran the Odyssey of the Mind program in Boulder Valley School District for 10 years. I was the Social Studies Content Area Resource Teacher for several years for the school district. I was a computer lab instructor in Germany. I am the past president of Phi Delta Kappa, an educational organization

Experience at what grade levels:
I taught third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades in Boulder schools and at the International School in Hamburg, Germany for 13 years.

Schools/colleges attended:
Graduated from Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Oregon. Attended Oregon State University, and graduated with a BS from the University of Colorado. Have a Masters of Education and a Type D Certificate from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Favorite thing about working at Ryan:
I enjoy the wide diversity of people who attend our school. I love working with the professional and caring staff. I enjoy the many changes that happen year to year at the school. I am especially pleased to be working on our math and science focus program this year. I also love teaching my 5th grade algebra group every year.

A goal for the year:
To successfully implement the exciting changes with the advent of our Math and Science program and incorporate Talented and Gifted programming into this process.

An interesting tidbit that you want to share:
This summer my wife Kelly and I took our two children to the Black Hills of South Dakota for a week long stay. We visited the Mammoth Dig Site, Wind Caves National Monument, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore National Monument, Bear Country USA, and the Reptile Gardens. On the way home from South Dakota, we stopped in Eastern Wyoming and learned about the Oregon Trail and observed the Wagon Wheel ruts formed by the Conestoga Wagons of the westward movement.
