Teresa Himel

Experience: My career in education has been in Early Childhood, teaching Head Start, preschool, 2 years at first grade, and 19 years in Boulder Valley as a Kindergarten teacher.

Schools: I graduated from George Washington High School in Denver and attended the University of Colorado where I received my B.S. in Elementary Education and my Masters in Literacy Education.

Working at Ryan: I love teaching at Ryan because of the wonderful diversity, friendly families, and supportive and caring staff. Ryan is a school that supports creativity and innovation in teaching, exemplified by the enthusiasm for our new Math/Science focus program. I returned to Ryan in 2003 after 6 years at Monarch K-8, and I am excited about the kindergarten program that we have created, the community building we have between our classes, and the respect shown in our school through the Ryan Promise.

Goal: My goal, as always, is to provide an exciting and challenging Kindergarten program that meets the needs of all my students and provides them with the necessary skills and experiences to make them joyful, enthusiastic learners.

Tidbit: I have a wonderful family, a 6 year old grandaughter, two daughters and a son. I have a love of travel and adventure that I bring to my Kindergarten through the study of Letters from Felix, a book that introduces children to world geography through a traveling rabbit. My Felix the Rabbit has traveled with me from Europe to the Great Wall of China and each year brings the wonder of the world to Kindergartners and their parents too!
