Music and math provided a symphony of integration this past week at Ryan Elementary Math and Science Focus School. The entire school had the opportunity to hear members of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra perform right here at school. See photo gallery here. Students K-2 were treated to the Steadfast Tin Soldier and even marched along with the soldier to the beat of the music. Students in grades 3-5 were provided an intimate look into how music and math are related. Mozart and his magic number squares, Pythagoras and Beethoven were some musicians/mathematicians highlighted. Using graphs, fractions and ratios were also ways the Colorado Symphony Orchestra helped students to see the interrelatedness of the topics. While math is a part of our everyday world in so many ways, it also helps us to ROCK on! |
