Partners in Science

Ryan Elementary Math and Science Focus School and Science Matters in Colorado are proud to announce their “Partners in Science” partnership. The goal of this partnership is to make interesting and innovative science programs available to Ryan Elementary students. “As a partner with Ryan Math and Science Focus School, our students can access these exciting and informational learning opportunities both conveniently and at a reduced price,” states Principal Jim Armitage.

The first major program in this partnership will be to offer two 1-week summer camps at Ryan Elementary in June and August 2007. Ryan Elementary students will receive priority registration and special pricing. Additionally, need based scholarships are available. The camps being offered are:

June 18-22: Take A Dive – An Ocean Adventure: Come dive into the world of Marine Biology and Oceanography. Dissect a real shark, participate in a fisherman’s challenge and bring to life genuine Triassic Triops. Examine the anatomy of a fish, make fish print t-shirts, and come face-to-face with some unique sea creatures such as squid. Learn to survive at sea with a homemade solar still. Jump right in for an underwater sea adventure.

August 6-10: Roller Coaster Science: This camp was developed by the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, one of the world’s best hands-on museums. Ever want to design your own amusement park? Master pneumatics, hydraulics, circuits & motors as you create the rides of your dreams. Harness the forces of gravity to construct a room-sized roller coaster. No amusement park is complete without sweet treats! Make cotton candy and sno-cones while learning the chemistry of these concoctions. Twirl, ride, bump, and dive your way into this thrill ride of a camp!

These camps are usually priced at $259/week (full day) and $140/week (1/2 day). Ryan Elementary students can sign up for these camps for $229 and $120 respectively. Sign up early as camps will fill up. Check with the office for information about scholarships. Watch your weekly take-home folder for flyers to register.
